Job Description

Recreation Aide
APPLY HERE
Provides general operational support for a comprehensive municipal recreation department. Responsibilities include programming, supervising,organizing, promoting, ensuring safety, and maximizing utilization and general care of all City recreation programs and facilities. This position reports directly to the Recreation Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Provides planning, developing, coordinating, scheduling and promotion of community-wide events, recreational and athletic programs; demonstrating responsiveness, creativity and innovation 2. Assists with the coordination, oversight, and supervision for the City's athletic and recreation programs, including the oversight of all certified officials 3. Works with the implementation of game schedules, program activities, and assists with developing the annual Recreation Department budget 4. Implements and utilizes fiscally sound purchasing practices and possesses working knowledge of the budget approval process 5. Assists with set-up, changes/adjustments, and breakdown of facility furniture, athletic fields and sports park grounds to include, but not limited to mowing, dragging, lining, prepping, etc. 6. Ensures the Recreation Supervisor has been informed of any information/issues of relevance 7. Maintains an open line of communication with Recreation employees, City staff, department director and the public 8. Responsible for gathering price quotes, facilitating purchases for materials and services, greets and answers customers' questions in an accurate and timely manner, and records and files program participant information for city records 9. Enforce rules and regulations of sports facilities to maintain discipline and ensure safety 10. Inspect and maintain equipment to maintain supply levels and safety 11. Attends work-related meetings and programs as needed 12. Works closely and coordinates with staff to ensure event and recreational facilities are prepared timely and maintained in a manner that enhances and positively promotes City events and programming 13. Ability to work a flexible 40-hour work week, including 11:00 am - 8:00 pm shifts, on-call, and Saturdays during select athletic seasons when needed 14. Serves to assist other departments within the Community Services Division as needed or directed 15. Must be available to work in the event of a disaster to assist with recovery response efforts. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS
AND ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of community recreation activities and events; and their administration 2. Ability to assist with well-rounded programs of recreation and athletic activities designed in response to growing community needs 3. Ability to understand and compose industry literature and spreadsheets 4. General knowledge of rules & regulations regarding both youth & adult sports programs 5. Knowledge of custodial cleaning methods, practices, procedures, and ability to perform duties within potential time restraints 6. Ability to work with the general public on all recreation and athletic programs 7. Ability to create and maintain a positive image with members of the public 8. Ability to motivate and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and to promote and maintain high morale and enthusiasm; consistently demonstrates strong judgment 9. General Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) proficiency 10. Strong written, verbal, interpersonal and public speaking skills 11. Ability to work extended hours beyond 40-hour work week, including select evenings, weekends and holidays 12. Work requires ability to read, interpret, understand and write letters, memos, contracts and rental agreements 13. Ability to multi-task in a challenging environment 14. Proven conflict resolution skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1. High School diploma or equivalent; post graduate education or bachelor's degree in Recreational Programming preferred 2. Two (2) years of experience in recreational programming or athletic administration preferred 3. Knowledge of rules & regulations regarding youth and adult athletics
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS
1. Valid Florida Driver's License 2. Valid CPR/First Aid certifications required or must be obtained within the first six (6) months of employment (A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS
  • Walking, standing, running, kneeling, bending, stooping and lifting up to 40lbs.
  • Must be available to work in the event of a disaster to assist with recovery response efforts
  • Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction)
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid)
  • Manual dexterity
