2026 Summer Day Arts & Crafts Specialist Salary $25.00 Hourly Location College Park, GA Job Type Seasonal Job Number 26SumDayCmpSpc Department Recreation Programs Opening Date 04/01/2026 Closing Date 5/16/2026 11:59 PM Eastern FLSA Determined by Position Summary The City of College Park Department of Recreation and Cultural Arts is accepting applications for the seasonal position of Summer Day Arts & Crafts Specialist for the Hugh C. Conley , Tracey Wyatt , and Wayman & Bessie Brady Recreation Centers , to provide a safe, fun, and memorable camp experience for children aged 6 to 12. A successful candidate will play an active role in the City of College Park's existing operational success. The Department of Recreation and Cultural Arts strives to provide each participant with a safe, fun, and high-quality experience. The purpose of the position is to plan, organize, and implement arts and crafts programs that engage children, encourage creativity, and provide a safe and fun environment while creating a positive, supportive, creative, and safe learning environment during the day camp programs.
Activity areas include indoor and outdoor games, sports, fitness activities, arts and crafts, on and off-site enrichment programs, and field trips; as well as group breakfast, lunches, and snack time. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Regular and consistent attendance is required. Self-transportation between centers is required. Must be able to work a flexible daytime schedule, Monday through Friday, from May 18 th - July 24 th . (Additional days before may be necessary for training.) Must be able to attend mandatory Camp Staff orientation/training scheduled on Tuesday, May 26 th at 9 AM or 2 PM . Knowledge of camp principles, child-development techniques, and methods of maintaining and using recreation equipment. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees. Must be able to use tact and courtesy in dealing with the public. Must be able to analyze and evaluate procedures and work processes and exercise appropriate judgment in establishing priorities and work methods. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships and deal effectively and courteously with others, to work independently and in team settings. Must be able to type or use a personal computer with word processing and related software and to enter and retrieve information with reasonable speed and accuracy. Moderate physical activity. Requires handling objects of average weight up to fifty (50) pounds, standing, sitting, and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
Hours Per Week:
Availability between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm (actual shift will vary); 3 days per week total, 1 day at each recreation center. Essential Functions Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate available guidelines and procedures, as well as interpret precedents. This position is responsible for actively leading hands-on activities three days per week , with one day at each of the three recreation centers, while providing support and encouragement to all campers, and working with team members to ensure that the needs of all campers are met. Develop, prepare, and lead arts and crafts activities for children in Summer Day Camp programs. Provide safe, engaging instruction and guidance for children of various ages. Set up and maintain arts and crafts areas, ensuring materials are safe and organized. Monitor safe use of materials and enforce program rules. Travel between the three recreation centers as scheduled. Assist camp staff with setup, cleanup, and event support. Maintains positive relationships with parents, campers, and staff. Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that logically relate to the position. This is not a desk job. Requests to facilitate the performance of essential functions will be given careful consideration. Qualifications Must be 18 years of age or older. High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Possession of a valid State of Georgia driver's license. Must have reliable transportation to travel between centers. At least six months of experience working with children in a camp, daycare, or other recreational setting where child supervision was required; OR one full season of day camp experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Hired applicants must possess a valid certificate of course completion for First Aid training that includes Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Children and Infants, first aid, and AED. This training must be from the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association. CPR and First Aid certification is required before the first day of camp; the City of College Park will offer a CPR course during the week of camp training for all those who need this certification. Applicant must have the ability to work as a team member and coordinate with other staff in contributing to the goals of the program. Strong organizational and communication skills. Experience in communicating with diverse communities and in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships. Proficiency in MS Office Suite, as well as knowledge and understanding of the organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures. Extensive hours and weekends will be required at times.Pre-employment screening is required:
