Recreion Assistant
- Hickam Fitness Center Department of the Navy Commander, Navy Installions Command CNRH Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam N921; Hickam Fitness Center Summary This position is assigned to the Non-Appropried Fund (NAF) Fitness, Sports, and Deployed Forces Support Branch; Fleet Readiness; Commander, Navy Installions Command (CNIC); Commander Navy Region Hawaii (CNRH).

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Administrive Support (includes but not limited to): Provides customer service to prons using the facility, to include: greeting customers; checking identificion cards to ensure only authorized users are entering facility; issuing and receiving gear/equipment; and registering prons for facility use, events, and/or classes. Answers telephone, providing informion in regards to facility hours of operion, upcoming special events and programs, etc. Completes the Daily Activity Reports, handling cash where fees apply, verifying the amount of money collected and dropping the cashier bag in the drop safe. Assists in planning, scheduling, and publicizing various activities and maintaining reled supplies in order to tract and motive participants. Oversees the sale of retail items associed with activities. Evalues the effectiveness of ongoing Morale, Welfare and Recreion (MWR) fitness activities from the standpoint of participants' responses, resources, and program objectives. Monitors prons, volunteers and contractors the assigned program/event and reports any issues to management. Assists in the selection of fitness, sports, and aquics activities to be offered, both within the required basic program cegories and additional ones possible through available resources and desirable in terms of participant's interests and needs. Instructional Support (includes but not limited to): Monitors assigned participants in indoor and outdoor activities to include intramural sporting events. Conducts instructional classes in the assigned recreional area. Performs basic fitness oriention; identifies and corrects unsafe fitness techniques. Demonstres procedures common to the activities and instructs in the use of reled equipment. Establishes/reviews the schedule of events, conducts tours, sets-up/prepares gymnasiums/facilities/playing fields prior to scheduled start time for events (e.g., lap swim, lifeguard training, exercise programs, races, pool parties, sporting events, etc.). Ensures adherence to regulions and safety procedures. Facility/Equipment Maintenance (includes but not limited to): Ensures facility and sporting fields are open and/or closed the posted time. Monitors and checks the security of premises. Monitors activity within the facility, circuling among the prons to assist with basic use of equipment/gear and to maintain good order and discipline. Ensures hletic playing surfaces are properly maintained, safe, and ready for play. Assists in properly cleaning and maintaining equipment/facilities, maintains inventory, performs general janitorial services to ensure interior spaces are in a clean, ne, and orderly ste all times (e.g., sweeping and mopping floors; dusting and cleaning workout areas, mirrors, bhrooms, and locker areas; straightening equipment and accessories, etc.). Makes minor repairs to facilities and equipment when approprie and assists with outdoor maintenance. Reports maintenance problems, merial deficiencies, and unsafe conditions or discrepancies th cannot be repaired in-house to the supervisor. 1.KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Knowledge of MWR policies, rules, and regulions involving the work area. Knowledge of basic arithmetic to compute charges, disperse change accurely, and prepare reports. Knowledge of cash handling procedures. Knowledge of basic fitness, aquics and sports principles. Knowledge of safe use and operion of fitness equipment, facility operions, and basic fitness equipment maintenance/repair. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook) and others as they rele to fitness, sports and aquics programming. Skill and ability to provide fitness, aquics and sports training or oriention. Ability to competently and independently carry out day to day recreion operions. Ability to develop and effectively deliver presentions and/or training. Ability to communice effectively both orally and in writing. 2.SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
Works under direct supervision of the Fitness and/or Sports, Aquics Program Managers or Fitness Facility and Maintenance Manager. Incumbent uses initiive in completing daily/routine assignments and receives general guidance and supervision. Supervisor provides advice and guidance regarding special problems or unusual situions. 3.GUIDELINES
Guidelines consist of Navy Fitness, Sports & Aquics Support program standards, departmental policies, regulions and Standard Opering Procedures (SOPs), and augmented regulions and procedures issued local level. Generally accepted procedures found in the fitness, aquics or sports industry and adopted by reputable organizions are also used. 4.COMPLEXITY
Work consists of providing physical fitness informion for the physiological needs of each customer and or command in addition to ensuring operional efficiency in the recreion/aquics facility during the incumbent's assigned shift, requiring the completion of multiple tasks simultaneously. The development and implemention of fitness classes must be unique and proper progression and specificity must be applied. Incumbent interacts with a wide variety of prons who seek physical fitness recommendions; consequently, incumbent must stay up to de on basic informion pertaining to the Fitness, Sports, and Aquics Departments and should actively promote programs and MWR events. 5.SCOPE AND EFFECT
Work involves performance of specific routine operions th include few tasks or procedures, but which may have a significant impact on the well-being of prons and staff. Incumbent is responsible for applying program policies and procedures to a considerable variety of customary problems, questions and situions th are typical of the activities, services and operions of a recreion/aquics program. Duties performed contribute directly to the military community's readiness, physical fitness, morale, and quality of life. Incumbent promotes physical fitness and healthful living, which has a positive influence in improving the morale, physical and mental well-being of all customers. 6.PERSONAL CONTACTS
Contacts are with all levels of active-duty personnel, retired military, family members, Command Fitness Leaders, recreion co-workers, staff workers, Department of Defense (DoD) officials, Command officials, security, police, and the civilian community, including vendors, contractors, and local organizions, DoD civilians, MWR personnel, environmental and health inspectors, maintenance personnel, and facility prons. 7.PURPOSE OF CONTACTS
The purpose of contacts is to plan, implement, and administer Recreion, Sports and Aquics Programs; motive participants; arrange staff assistance; resolve problems; enforce policies and procedures; provide customer service; increase participion; and promote quality of life programs. 8.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work includes extended hours of sitting and standing. Exercise demonstrions and/or prolonged hours may be required. Must have the ability to perform moderely strenuous physical labor, lifting objects weighing up to 45 pounds unassisted and heavier weight with assistance. 9.WORK ENVIRONMENT
The recreion activities overall involve everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of the recreion specialty. There periods of time when the employee participes in a specific activity (e.g. leading physical training, moving equipment, carrying aquics equipment, etc.) th will require special safety precautions. Facilities may be subjected to varying conditions (e.g., variable weher conditions, variable temperures, humidity, etc.). 10.OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must have or be able to obtain and maintain the following certificion within 30 days of hire: Cardiopulmonary Resuscition and First Aid Certificion Must have or be able to obtain and maintain the following certificions within 90 days of hire: Automed External Defibrillor Certificion Blood-borne Phogen Certificion Navy Basic Fitness Certificion Occasional travel of less than 10% may be required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Nional Agency Check with Written Inquires (NACI), upon hiring and renew every 5 years and/or a Child Care Nional Agency Check with Inquires when there is regular contact with children under the age of 18.
