Job Description

Position Summary Under general supervision, performs recreation activities on assigned nursing units for physically, mentally, and or emotionally disabled patients from adult through geriatric ages. Position Responsibilities Unit Specific Position Responsibilities Acquires necessary equipment, supplies and resources to conduct activities. Plans and coordinates a schedule of activities groups based on needs of behavioral health populations. Facilitates a variety of groups/individual activities. Supervises/monitors patient performance and behaviors during activities and reports condition to nursing staff. Completes documentation related to activities according to department policy. Coordinates/communicates with other team members regarding patient's progress related to the plan of care. Maintains a safe environment. Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education): BLS training or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment. Mandatory Reporter training or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment. De-escalation training prior to performing patient care or within 90 days of hire.
Organizational Requirements:
Maintain stroke education per regulatory requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum high school graduate.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Ability to assist personnel with patients. Ability to understand and communicate oral and written English; explain procedures and give information. Skill in the use of activities/recreation equipment and/or techniques. Ability to detect abnormal conditions and report appropriately. Able to function promptly and appropriately under a variety of health related conditions.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Experience as activities coordinator in long term care or behavioral health setting is preferred.
