Job Description
Under the administrative direction of the Recreation Coordinator, performs a wide variety of functions in the area of recreation programming. Assists the Coordinator in planning, coordinating, and overseeing recreation programs. Examples of Essential Job Functions Assist in the planning, implementation, and supervision of recreational activities and events, and staff. Provides guidance to team members on scheduling, planning, and assignment of duties across leisure service areas. Monitor assigned programs to ensure safe, efficient operation and engage with participants to gather feedback. Oversee lesson or program plans, including activities, crafts, field trips, and guest speakers. Complete and enter program registrations; assist with maintaining daily records, attendance sheets, incident reports, and accident reports. Assist with scheduling and evaluating staff and volunteers. Respond to public concerns, questions, and suggestions in a calm and professional manner. Create promotional materials and assists with purchasing supplies for recreation programs. Regular attendance is an essential function of this position. Other Job Functions Attend required orientation and training sessions. Other duties as apparent or assigned.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to think logically and follow written, verbal, or diagrammatic instructions and to solve problems with several abstract and concrete variables. Knowledge of the recreation facilities and proper use of equipment. Ability to assist in supervising and engaging with recreation program participants. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, co-workers and the public; ability to tactfully address a wide array of social situations. Knowledge of safety regulations and appropriate precautions related to recreation programs.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE
Education Required High School diploma or equivalent GED/HiSET required. Enrollment in or progress toward a BA/BS is preferred. Experience Required Experience in recreation programming and experience working with children. Required Special Qualifications Minimum age 16, or 18 if transporting participants. Possess, or be able to obtain, a valid Iowa Driver's License with good driving record for the past three years. If responsible for transporting program participants in 15-passenger vans, a Class D - Chauffeur's License with Endorsement 3 is required. Full reimbursement available. Current First Aid and CPR certifications are required. The City of Clive will provide First Aid and CPR training for employees who do not already hold these certifications. Job Moderate Physical Demand:
Work that involves lifting up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally and up to twenty-five (25) pounds on a frequent basis. Environmental Characteristics Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with seasonal exposure to heat and cold. The position may involve exposure to unpleasant social situations, a fast-paced work environment, and irregular work hours.
