Full time and part time shifts available. Operating under the supervision of licensed nursing staff and the Supportive Living Department Manager, the Universal Worker fulfills a cross-functional role that integrates personal care assistance, housekeeping, laundry, meal service support, social and recreational program participation to promote residents' physical and emotional well-being and encourages them to reach their highest level of independence. This role is designed to create an approach in developing relationships with residents, communication and handling difficult behaviors. Incorporates Montessori principles in activities of daily living and recreational activities.
Responsibilities:
Provides assistance with instrumental activities of daily living such as bed making and laundry. Performs safety checks. Recognizes and responds to changs in residents' behavior, cognitive and physical functioning and level of participation and interaction with others. Assist the designated activity staff person in facilitatin on-site social and recreational programs. Support resident participation in off-site trips and community activities; ensure transportation is arranged as required. Provides emergency services, inc. CPR, as needed. Communicates both verbal and written information objectively and timely to management team, home health, emergency response team and other departments within Encore Village. Documents clearly and legibly in residents' records. Assists with the maintenance of unit records. Provides escort services with the Village; this may include wheelchair transportation. Participates in social and therapeutic activities on/off campus; contributes to program design. This includes identifying those activities residents are interested in, set up, conducting the activity and clean up. Residents will need to be encourages and reminded to participate. Assists in the residents' dining experience. This will include reminding residents of meal times, escorting residents to and from the dining room, assisting residents to complete their menus, and serving of food and beverages in the dining room,, cutting meat, clearing away dishes after meal and providing for tray delivery to resident apartments. Orients new residents and families to unit. Attends staff meetings on a regular basis. Completes required training on an annual basis. Work as a team member to assure that the residents are getting the best care here at Encore Village. Other duties as assigned.
Environment and Physical Demands:
Frequently standing, walking, sititng, talking, hearing, bending, squatting, reaching, twisting, feeling, grasping, climbing stairs, ladders or other climbing or balancing, crouching, crawling, kneeling, reaching with hands and arms, and smelling. Frequently being able to move from shoulder and above; waist to shoulder; and waist and below heights. Being able to lift up to 75 lbs. Frequently being able to utilize color vision (identifying and distinguishing colors) and occastionally being able to look at a computer monitor. Frequently being exposed to body fluids/blood. Occastionally being exposed to biohazard materials and chemical hazards. Being able to operate equipment such as wheelchairs. Required to wear protective clothing respiratory protection other than surgical mask.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Must be at least 18 years of age High School diploma Previous caregiving experience preferred Abile to respond appropriately and quickly to emergency situations Able to speak and write English well Able to work independently Able to work overtime as required Potentially exposed to communicable diseases. Works with cognitively and potentially physically impaired residents Needs to demonstrate patience and respond to individuals who are repetitive, emotionally upset and/or argumentative or who may demonstrate other difficult behaviors.
