Job Description
Summer Camp Youth Counselor Job Summary:
The Youth Counselor is responsible for supervising, instructing, and providing ongoing support to students during programming. This role assists the Youth Program Coordinator and Lead Counselor throughout the year as needed. Training and onboarding will be provided before and after the start date.Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Youth Counselor will oversee students and volunteers participating in the program.Duties and Responsibilities:
Actively participate as a key member of the program team. Supervise and provide instruction and support to students and volunteers during activities. Assign and oversee staff tasks and ensure the smooth operation of programs. Assess equipment and supply needs, monitor program safety, and make recommendations to the Youth Program Director. Follow established behavior management protocols and provide feedback on their effectiveness to the Youth Program Director. Assist with the administration of medical protocols as directed. Maintain the cleanliness, security, and upkeep of program facilities. May be responsible for closing the facility. Implement policies and procedures related to the facility and, if applicable, the Hanna Community Center's 15-passenger van, including completing required paperwork, driving as needed, and reporting damages to the Youth Program Director. Participate in mandatory training sessions and certifications per Hanna Community Center standards. Communicate effectively and respectfully with staff, students, parents, and volunteers. Build positive relationships with students' families and keep them informed about concerns or updates. Monitor and maintain the fridge and freezer to ensure food safety. Perform other duties as assigned.Required Skills and Abilities:
Enthusiastic and positive attitude. Valid Indiana driver's license with a clean driving record. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Ability to learn and enforce safety and operating procedures. High level of responsibility and accountability. Availability to attend staff meetings and orientation as required. Flexibility to work a varied schedule based on program needs. Comfortable driving a 15-passenger busEducation and Experience:
HS Degree or above Previous experience working with children is required . Must pass a background check, TB test, and drug test.Physical Requirements:
Ability to participate in games, sports, and physical activities, including water-based activities if applicable. Maintain focus, energy, and enthusiasm for extended periods. Physically capable of supporting the weight of children. Comfortable working outdoors and tolerating various weather conditions.Job Type:
