Job Description
This position is responsible for facilitating the summer camp curriculum. Enthusiastically represent the Lee Richardson Zoo by displaying a positive attitude and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job. Maintain professional quality standards by utilizing excellent communication and guest work service skills (both oral and written) Maintain camper-to-staff ratios to ensure the safety of all participants and staff. Assist with operational logistics, such as camp set-up, check-in, and camp breakdown. Assist with the running of a half-day camp including teaching written curriculum, helping campers with crafting, activities, games, and walks outdoors. Provide guidance to campers by keeping them on task and behaving appropriately. Organize, prepare, and maintain program materials. Maintain cleanliness of designated camp areas. Perform as a role model for younger students by displaying team spirit and enthusiasm through the summer program. Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to receive, understand, and carry out verbal and written instruction, direction, and assignments. Ability to perform physical work activities in varying weather conditions. Ability to de-escalate situations involving highly emotionally charged individuals. Ability to communicate and work with children, volunteers, and adult staff. Ability to communicate and cooperate with city employees and to deal with the public in an effective and positive manner. Knowledge of animal biology, behavior, and conservation will be helpful.Education, Certification and Experience:
Minimum of 18 years of age. One (1) year of college experience preferred. At least six (6) months of prior experience working in childcare or similar fields preferred. Good oral and written communication skills. Valid Kansas Driver's License is required. First Aid/CPR/AED Certification preferred.Environment:
Work is performed in all types of weather. Work is performed outside and indoors. Work may be performed in classrooms, outdoor patios, outdoor play spaces, and/or out in the Zoo at large. Other work may be in, habitats, exhibits, barns, and rooms housing animals. Weather conditions include extreme, moderate, and temperate cold and heat, snow, ice, fog, rain, sleet, hail, high and gusting winds, humid and dry conditions. Works with cleaning supplies and medications for campers (e.g., Epi-pen) as required.Surfaces:
Sand, gravel, dirt, grass, asphalt, concrete, rock, clay, indoor & outdoor walkways, rug, carpet, tile, laminate, and other hard floor surfaces.Physical Characteristics:
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs., push, pull, tug, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, carry, cut, shovel, rake, scoop, sit, stand, see, hear, speak, and sweep.Similar jobs in Garden City, KS
