Job Description

Job Summary The Activities Assistant supports the planning, organization, and implementation of recreational, social, educational, and therapeutic activities for residents in a long-term care or skilled nursing facility. The goal is to enhance residents' quality of life, promote social interaction, and support physical, emotional, and cognitive well-being. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist in planning and conducting daily activity programs for residents. Encourage resident participation in individual and group activities. Lead activities such as games, arts and crafts, exercise classes, music programs, and special events. Assist residents to and from activity areas as needed. Help decorate and prepare areas for holidays, celebrations, and community events. Maintain activity supplies and equipment. Document resident participation and attendance according to facility policies. Support individualized activity plans based on resident interests and abilities. Collaborate with nursing staff, families, volunteers, and other departments to meet resident needs. Ensure activities are conducted in a safe and respectful manner. Participate in outings and special events when required. QualificationsRequired High school diploma or GED. Ability to communicate effectively with elderly residents, families, and staff. Compassionate, patient, and positive attitude. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Basic computer and documentation skills. Ability to lift, push, pull, and assist residents as necessary. Preferred Certified Nursing Aide Experience working in long-term care, assisted living, healthcare, or recreational programming. Training in activities, recreation, gerontology, or related field. Knowledge of dementia care and person-centered programming. Certification as an Activity Professional (where applicable). Skills and Competencies Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Creativity and enthusiasm. Organizational and time-management abilities. Ability to adapt activities to varying physical and cognitive abilities. Observation skills to identify resident interests and needs. Dependability and professionalism. Working Conditions Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting. Interaction with residents who may have physical limitations, dementia, or other cognitive impairments. Flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays for special events.
