Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Activities Assistant to enrich the lives of residents at St. Joseph of Harahan. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in event planning, recreational therapy, and senior care, with experience working in a nursing home settings. As an Activities Assistant, you will design and implement engaging programs that promote social interaction, mental stimulation, and overall well-being. Your role is vital in fostering a vibrant community atmosphere where residents feel valued, supported, and active. Responsibilities Plan, organize, and facilitate a variety of recreational activities tailored to residents' interests and abilities, including memory care and dementia-specific programs. Assist residents with daily activities (Activities of Daily Living - ADLs) to promote independence and comfort. Coordinate schedules for events and activities to ensure smooth operation and maximum participation. Collaborate with care staff to identify individual needs related to aging issues, disabilities, or cognitive impairments such as Alzheimer's disease. Provide emotional support and companionship during activities, encouraging social interaction among residents. Maintain accurate records of participation and resident preferences to personalize future programming efforts. Foster an inclusive environment by working with individuals with diverse backgrounds and abilities, ensuring all residents feel welcome and engaged. Experience Prior experience in nursing homes is highly desirable. Demonstrated knowledge of recreational therapy techniques, memory care strategies, and dementia care best practices. Proven ability to plan and execute engaging events that stimulate cognitive function and promote socialization. Strong communication skills for effectively interacting with residents, families, staff, and external vendors. Experience working with individuals with disabilities or special needs is advantageous. Familiarity with caregiving roles related to aging issues counseling or social work enhances the ability to support resident well-being. A background in event planning combined with caregiving experience ensures the delivery of meaningful activities that improve quality of life. Pay:
$15.00 - $18.00 per hour
