Summer Camp Coordinator Description:
The New Art Center is amunity art education space which offers everyone, at all levels of ability, exceptional opportunities to make, exhibit, view, think about and talk about art. Since 1977, New Art has builtmunity by lowering barriers to participation in the arts and integrating the experience of art into everyday life. Today, we envision the New Art Center as a highly visible, bold, anti-racist, inclusive leader in art education andmunity building that serves the Greater Bostonmunity with programs and opportunities for all ages both in our facility and beyond our walls. New Art serves over 3,000+ students annually in hundreds of classes and workshops which are taught by some of the region's most esteemed art educators. New Art offers a supportive culture that takes art and artists seriously. The Summer Art Camp Coordinator ensures smooth daily operations, andmunicates with a rotating staff of faculty, Teaching Assistants, and parents of up to 75 children (grades 1-12) each week. The Summer Coordinator greets parents and students, provides additional support for students and staff when needed, checks students in and out each day, and maintainsmunication with families or caregivers regarding curriculum, behavior, or illness.
GENERAL DUTIES
Oversee daily arrivals and departures of both students and faculty. With the Deputy Director of Education and other program staff, conduct basic staff/faculty orientation and training for the summer program. Interface with New Art Center's Studio Manager to maintain necessary stock of supplies and equipment. Support classes through openmunication to teachers through weekly meetings, management of individual student needs or behavioral issues, teacher requests for materials/supplies/information, etc. Be available to fill in for teachers and counselors as necessary by leading art projects and/or supervising campers. This position will not be scheduled as a regular teacher or counselor, but will be responsible for the smooth flow of daily activities, and may be called on to cover unexpected absences or emergencies. Distribute and produce, daily and weekly check-in sheets, name tags, and class rosters in coordination with Registrar and Education Coordinator (basic training on our database will be provided). any errors or inaccuracies to the Program Office. Communicate with families, evaluate feedback from surveys and adjust as needed, including a mid-week update email to parents. Ad to Employee Handbook andanization's policies. If needed, undergo additional training in first aid, CPR, and epi pen administration (New Art pays for this training). Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree required 3 years teaching experience in art preferred Knowledge of art, art-making and art materials (drawing and ceramics teaching experience is a plus) Experience working with children and teens, especially in creative summer environments and/or students with support needs Some administrative experience required Excellentanizational skills Ability to deal with the unexpected with a smile, a positive and helpful attitude, and a passion for the arts Familiarity with databases and information systems (Art Center Canvas, Google Apps, Excel & Word) a plus
POSITION REQUIREMENTS A
dependable, energetic person with experience in full day art programs for students. A positive, helpful attitude and friendly etiquette while talking to students, parents, counselors, faculty, staff,munity members and vendors. Exceptional ability to multi-task and remain focused in a busy, high-energy studio environment. Ability to build strong teams, yet be self-directed and work independently when necessary.
