Temporary Recreation Counselor Great Island Homeowners' Association West Yarmouth, MA About Great Island:
Great Island is a summer-oriented residential community spanning approximately 600 acres in West Yarmouth, Massachusetts, on the south shore of Cape Cod. Accessible by road, the island features pristine beaches along Nantucket Sound and Lewis Bay, as well as marshland, open fields, and protected conservation areas. The community includes a historic lighthouse, a sheltered cove, and 41 privately owned homes. Amenities include a seasonal restaurant, a 10-hole rustic golf course, four tennis courts, two pickleball courts, and two docks.Status:
Non-exempt Position Overview:
Great Island is seeking enthusiastic and responsible Recreation Counselors to support and help manage our children's and young adult recreation program. This role is focused on delivering an exceptional "summer club" experience through safe, engaging, and age-appropriate activities for children ages 7-15. Group sizes vary throughout the summer but typically range from 4 to 12 participants.Supervision:
Recreation Counselors report directly to the Recreation Director and collaborate closely with other departments.Primary Responsibilities:
Program & Activities Assist with racquet (tennis and pickleball), golf, and waterfront activities alongside professional staff Plan and lead weekly themed activities and organize special events and "adventure days" Develop engaging alternatives for inclement weather Engagement & Leadership Lead games, arts and crafts, storytelling, and outdoor activities in a fun, inclusive environment Serve as a positive role model, fostering confidence, teamwork, and sportsmanship Provide guidance, encouragement, and support to all participants Safety & Operations Maintain a safe environment by recognizing potential risks and following all safety procedures Promptly report any unsafe conditions to theGeneral Manager Qualifications:
Prior experience working with children (camp, coaching, tutoring, etc.) Strong sense of responsibility, patience, enthusiasm, and a good sense of humor Ability to actively participate in outdoor activities in varying weather conditions CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)Schedule and Compensation:

Monday- Friday, 8:45 am
- 3:15 pm (hours may vary)
Pay:
$18- $22/hour (based on experience)
