Job Description

Recreation Coordinator The City of College Park is seeking an energetic, community-focused professional to join our team as a Recreation Coordinator. This position plays a key role in enhancing residents' quality of life while serving as a connector between the City and the community through engaging recreational programs, community events, and partnerships that bring people together. What You'll Do The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, administering, coordinating, and facilitating a wide variety of recreational programs, activities, leagues, special events, and community initiatives. This role is primarily focused on recreation programming, community engagement, and event coordination, while supporting facility scheduling, permitting, operational logistics, and program administration. This role includes evening and weekend work associated with community events, programs, and recreational activities. Key Responsibilities The ideal candidate will have experience and demonstrated success in: Assisting with the development, implementation, and day-to-day supervision of the City's recreation programs and activities. Building and maintaining strong partnerships with community organizations, civic groups, vendors, and program participants. Coordinating and supporting community events, meetings, leagues, programs, tournaments, recreational activities, and community-led recreational initiatives. Scheduling and securing athletic fields, parks, coaches, referees, and other resources needed for successful programming and events. Supporting operational coordination of recreation programs and events, including the scheduling, permitting, logistics, vendor coordination, and compliance requirements. Reviewing applications and documentation to ensure compliance with insurance, licensing, and permit requirements. Assisting organizations and event users with navigating permitting and licensing processes. Monitoring food service operations during events to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. Supporting volunteer coordination and assisting with event set up and operational needs as required. Assisting with reports, communications, scheduling, and other administrative functions related to recreational programming and facilities. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Leisure Services, Public Administration, or a related field. Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in recreation programming, community engagement, event coordination, or a related field. Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt in a fast-paced, event-driven environment. Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed for programs and special events. Strong computer skills, including using Microsoft Office, online scheduling systems, and digital communication tools. Certifications The selected candidate must obtain or be able to obtain the following certifications within the first year of employment: CPR/AED and First Aid Certification Food Manager Certification Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) Compensation & Benefits This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a starting salary range of $74,724 - $78,507 , depending on qualifications. The City offers a competitive and comprehensive benefits package, including participation in the Maryland State Retirement System.
