Job Description

Activities Assistant - River Oaks Day Center - Snow Hill, MD Position Overview The Activities Assistant is responsible for helping with scheduled activities, including setup, breakdown, and general support with daily programming. This role takes a person-centered approach to enrich participants' social, recreational, and mental well-being. The assistant serves as a key member of the multidisciplinary care team for the clients of the adult medical day center. Knowledge and/or Experience Required An associate's degree or three years of experience may be substituted for the educational requirements. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in activities coordination, therapeutic recreation, or program aide serving older adults, individuals with disabilities, or other special populations. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred but not required. Strong knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles and person-centered care approaches. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required. Skills and Abilities Required Ability to work compassionately and effectively with elderly individuals and those with physical or cognitive disabilities. Ability to follow, document, and contribute to individualized care plans and provide chart documentation related to Activities of Daily Living (ADL) assistance. Capable of assisting with ADL support, including lifting, transferring, and/or toileting of participants. Demonstrated ability to identify, de-escalate, and assist in managing challenging or disruptive verbal and physical behaviors. Must participate in and maintain certification in all required training, including CPR, First Aid, and COMAR compliance. Med-Tech (CMT) certification is a plus. Proficient computer and word processing skills; ability to maintain accurate records and documentation. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer relations skills with a positive, adaptable attitude. Physical capability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 lbs. (Physical examination required.) Good hearing, visual acuity, and physical balance required to maintain a safe and active program environment. Ability to drive a mobility van for client transport as directed by the Program Director Working Conditions Indoor program environment with potential exposure to varying temperatures. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens; adherence to universal precautions and infection control protocols required. May be exposed to environmental noise and cleaning or sanitation chemicals. Emotionally demanding environment; strong stress management and resilience are essential. Cross-coverage with other staff may be required as program needs arise. Occasional transport of participants for community outings or specialized programs. Compensation Pay scale commensurate with experience and education; starting minimum $18.21 per hour. Partial benefits package included.
