Recreation and Event Coordinator Eaton County - 2.9 Grand Ledge, MI Job Details Full-time $40,851 - $53,102 a year 13 hours ago Qualifications Microsoft Publisher Driver's License Decision making Full Job Description General Summary Under the supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director, creates, plans and coordinates revenue producing recreation programs, activities, and/or special events for county residents and visitors. Provides direction and oversight of outdoor programs and events which may include: youth programs, introductory sports camps, summer programs, camping, special interest events and classes, and community events. Records financial activities and maintains records related to program expenditures, revenues and deliverables. Assists in preparing and monitoring the budget for events and programs. Fosters cooperative working relationships with various public and private groups. Performs related work as assigned. Days and hours of work may vary when pro g rammin g is runnin g, but typically a 40-hour work week . Essential Functions Creates innovative and highly diversified child, adult and family programs and events for Eaton County Parks and Recreation Department. Plans, supervises, monitors and coordinates revenue producing recreation programs, activities, and/or special events at multiple sites. Develops and implements budgets, goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned services, events and programs. Recommends and implements policies and procedures, including standard operating procedures, for assigned programs and events. Collaborates with department director to identify resource needs, estimate cost of supplies and materials, order supplies and materials for projects and activities, maintain records of purchase orders and assist in developing budget figures for specified areas of responsibility. Monitors and documents expenditures and revenues related to recreation programs; maintains accurate records of recreation services and activities including reports, recreation schedules, program participation and analysis, grants, and contract programs. Fundraise through writing sponsorship grants and soliciting in-kind donations. Creates marketing and promotional materials for recreational programs, including developing and preparing brochures, flyers, newsletters, program guides, and other materials; maintains and updates informational kiosk and websites as needed. Establishes and cultivates community and media relationships to promote special events and programs. Acts as a representative to patrons and residents regarding questions, problems, concerns, and activities in the provision of recreation program operations, activities, and services. Coordinates, trains and develops program and/or event volunteers. Works with Naturalist to assist in teaching interpretive programs focusing on natural, historical or recreational topics for people of all ages and levels of experience. Responsible for maintaining Camp Licensing. Responsible for training Summer Camp manager prior to the start of Camp. Responsible for scheduling and operating the mobile recreation trailer around Eaton County Provides operational support as required. Performs other duties as assigned.
Other Functions:
Attends staff meetings, conferences, workshops, seminars and reads job-related publications to maintain professional competency. Required to be on-call as a part of a rotational weekend schedule. Willing to work in all weather conditions. This list may not be inclusive of the total scope of job functions to be performed. Minimum Qualifications Education:
Must have a Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Programming or related field of study.
Experience:
Two years' of experience in Parks and Recreation or Community Education at the intern or professional level. Any combination of education and applicable work experience may be considered in meeting the minimum requirements outlined above. Must be familiar with various computer applications and programs including Microsoft Office Suite and Publisher. High level of independent motivation and judgment skills as well as strong analytical, planning and decision-making skills.
Other Requirements:
Lifeguarding/CPR experience including Lifeguard Certification, CPR Certification, and First-Aid Certification desired. If not currently holding, candidates should have the ability to attain within a reasonable amount of time after starting employment. American Canoe Association Certification and Certified Park and Recreation Professional preferred. Must possess valid Michigan Driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
