Job Description
The Arts Engagement Internship is a year-long opportunity designed for an emerging arts professional seeking hands-on experience in arts administration, community engagement, creative storytelling, theater and performance support, and City-wide arts initiatives. Working alongside the Arts & Events Recreation Supervisor, Art Center and Events Recreation Specialist, and Theater and Performing Arts Coordinator, the Intern will help share the story of Eden Prairie's vibrant arts community while gaining experience in arts operations, promotion, and engagement. Details Internship (PTS position: part time, temporary, or seasonal) Starts at $18.00 per hour (depending upon qualifications) Reports to Recreation Supervisor - Arts and Events Located at Eden Prairie City Center (7650 Equitable Dr, Eden Prairie, MN 55344) Position begins in May 2026 through May 2027 (negotiable start/end dates). Hours varies based on business need; will include evening, weekend and holiday hours onsite at Parks and Recreation programming and events. Position will average approximately 40/hours a week. Responsibilities The Arts Engagement Internship is a year-long opportunity designed for an emerging arts professional seeking hands-on experience in arts administration, community engagement, creative storytelling, theater and performance support, and City-wide arts initiatives. Working alongside the Arts & Events Recreation Supervisor, Art Center and Events Recreation Specialist, and Theater and Performing Arts Coordinator, the Intern will help share the story of Eden Prairie's vibrant arts community while gaining experience in arts operations, promotion, and engagement. This position's primary responsibilities include: Assist in developing engaging content that highlights arts programming, community impact, and behind-the-scenes stories for social media, newsletters, print materials, and the City website. Works with communications division on the development of an Arts Center promotional video. Partner with the City Communications team to produce compelling stories about the Art Center, theater productions, and community arts initiatives. Provide administrative support for RecTrac operations, including program setup, updates, registration management, rosters, and participant communications. Develop a monthly arts program for young adults with corresponding evaluative pieces to best understand its impacts and future direction. Support Art Center daily operations by providing front desk coverage, assisting visitors, responding to general inquiries, and creating a welcoming environment. Support school programs and birthday parties at the Art Center. Assist the Theater and Performing Arts Coordinator in planning, scheduling, and delivering community theater productions and summer concert series. Support day-of-show operations such as ushering, audience engagement, backstage coordination, performer hospitality, and event flow. Participate in artist research, contracting, and communications with performers and partners. Assist with setup, teardown, and on-site operations at concerts, plays, festivals, and City-wide arts events. Support City-wide public art initiatives, including Art on City Walls and other public art installations. Work closely with the Eden Prairie Players Advisory Committee, a local community theater organization sponsored by the city, on various productions. While these areas are the primary focus of this position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City. Requirements Bachelor's degree in arts administration, theater, music production, visual or performing arts, community engagement, or a related field preferred, or current enrollment with at least three years completed required. Strong communication and storytelling skills required. Ability to work evenings and weekends during events and performances required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) required. Proficiency in photography and videography using personal smart phone and/or professional equipment required. Candidates must have the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, demonstrate excellence in verbal and written communication skills, have strong project management skills, attention to detail, be driven, confident and assertive, and have a strong interest in arts administration, event coordination, community programming or stage production. Candidates must successfully complete and pass the City's evaluation of the pre-employment process prior to their first day of employment. Pre-employment processes for this position includes professional reference checks, background check, driver's check (must have valid driver's license and excellent driving record).
