Division Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board Department Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board Opening Date 05/22/2026 FLSA Non-Exempt Summary The MPRB is accepting applications for part-time Neighborhood Day Camp Counselors to lead and oversee day camp participants and programming at MPRB's youth Day Camps. Staff will be assigned to one of our themed camps for the duration of the summer based on their skill sets. Summer Camp Weekly Themes may include but are not limited to subjects such as Farm-to-Table, Neurodivergent Inclusivity, Kayaking, Theater, Cycling, and water activities. This position works 20-32 hours per week, part- time. Varied working hours Tuesday-Fridays 9:30-5:30PM
OR 2-7PM
Training begins mid-June and camp runs through the end of August.

What You'll Do Plan, prepare and lead fun, hands-on, outdoor-based summer day camp sessions that promote high-quality, outdoor educational and recreational experiences for campers ages typically 8-13. Oversee campers' safety and well-being, while helping to facilitate their interactions with others and their surroundings. Provide high-quality customer service and communication with parents/guardians. Build positive relationships with campers as well as parents/guardians. Engage and encourage campers in learning and positive experiences. Successfully implement group management while conducting camp. Identify and respond to camper behavioral concerns as needed. Use materials and resources responsibly. Clean up camp space at the end of each day. Assist MPRB in identifying and addressing the park and recreation needs of underserved and under-represented communities. What To Bring Need to

Experience working with youth ages 8-13: Three (3) years. Experience/Training in one of our theme activities such as: canoeing, kayaking, theater, music, dance, biking, cooking, gardening, archery, fishing, water safety. Skills Crucial to
Success In This Role:
Knowledge of principles and practices of customer service. Knowledge of current principles and best practices of instruction related to assigned camp theme. Knowledge of current principles and practices for working with youth (preschool to age 12). Knowledge of cultural competence in engaging people from diverse communities. Ability to work outside for the duration of the day. Ability to spend large blocks of time with youth. Ability to adapt to working in different locations. Flexibility and adaptability to changes in work assignments. Participate and engage with training/development opportunities as assigned. Establish and maintain effective, respectful and productive working relationships. Ability to Negotiate effective and appropriate solutions to difficult conflicts.

Medium Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Frequent outdoor work with exposure to hot and cold temperatures and varying weather conditions.
