Open for 30 days from posting date Position Summary The City of Carthage is seeking a dynamic and motivated professional to serve as Assistant Parks & Recreation Director. This leadership role assists in the administration, planning, organization, and evaluation of programs, services, facilities, and operations within the Parks & Recreation Department. The Assistant Director provides key support to the Parks & Recreation Director and plays a critical role in project management, contract administration, capital improvement coordination, and grant development. This position also oversees operations at Memorial Hall and may act as Director in their absence. Key Responsibilities Assist in planning, directing, and evaluating Parks & Recreation programs and operations Coordinate and oversee operations of Memorial Hall and the Fair Acres Sports Complex Manage capital improvement and facility projects Develop RFPs, specifications, timelines, and budgets Lead or assist with contract negotiation and administration Identify and manage grant opportunities, including compliance and reporting Assist with department budgeting and financial oversight Support hiring, training, and supervision of staff Build partnerships with community organizations Respond to citizen inquiries and represent the department publicly Qualifications Experience & Education 3-5 years of relevant experience in parks & recreation, public administration, or project management Contract administration and grant writing experience preferred High school diploma or equivalent required Licenses Valid Missouri driver's license (or ability to obtain) Work Schedule Monday-Friday schedule with occasional evenings, weekends, and on-call responsibilities as needed.
