Job Description

Summer Day Camp Counselor Parkville, MO 64152 $16 an hour - Temporary, Part-time, Full-time $16 an hour - Temporary, Part-time, Full-time Summer Day Camp Counselor Hours; 7:30 am to 3:30 pm Camp runs until August 7, 2026
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Camp Director and the Assistant Camp Director, this position's main responsibility is for the daily care and supervision of campers. Counselors will ensure the safety of campers that are between the ages of 6-14 by supervising youth. The position also is responsible for creating, leading, and implementing some daily activities in our outdoor camp setting.
Position Responsibilities:
Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers within activities and throughout the camp to meet the intended camper outcomes. Assure youth are properly supervised AT ALL times. Counselors will develop, lead, and actively participate in various activities/games. Create and maintain a camp culture that is kind, and supportive. Understand and apply basic youth development principles while working with assigned camper groups. Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff. Ensure that campers and camp staff know and follow safety precautions put in place. Counselors should be an overall positive role model to campers and staff in their attitude and behavior during and outside of camp. Maintain clear and positive written and verbal communication with all camp staff and campers. Assist in the overall implementation of camp programs. Adhere to all Camp Fire Heartland policies and procedures.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Minimum of 18 years of age. A genuine interest in working with and teaching children in an outdoor environment. Knowledge of basic practices of youth development. Ability to provide supervision and guidance to youth. Ability to handle the pressures that are associated when working with children with patience and self-control. Flexible, adaptable, and enthusiastic (every day at camp is different)! Endurance, including standing, walking, hiking, bending, stooping, stretching, being on your feet, and playing with kids. Ability to work in the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions. Self-motivated, able to work independently or with a team.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Prior camp experience Prior experience working with youth Current CPR and First Aid certifications (CPR and First Aid training offered during pre-camp staff training) Camp Fire is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
