Appointment Type Full Time Regular Exempt/Non-Exempt Exempt General Function The Coordinator of University/Community Programs is responsible for implementing an annual schedule of events and coordinating the delivery of those events and services with other Civic Center operations and events under the direction of the Associate Vice-Chancellor for Administrative Operations and in coordination with the City of West Plains Civic Center Manager. This includes planning, budgeting, promotion and execution to achieve successful outcomes. Additionally, this position is responsible for the development and management of individual and group aquatics and wellness programs for men and women as a part of the Administrative Operations division, Aquatics and Wellness Department at the West Plains Civic Center. Patrons of the program include the students, faculty, staff and administration of Missouri State University-West Plains; residents of West Plains, Missouri; and citizens of the seven counties comprising the Ozarks Heritage Region of south-central Missouri (Howell, Oregon, Texas, Douglas, Wright, Ozark and Shannon counties). Description of Primary Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Plans, coordinates, and schedules university activities at the West Plains Civic Center as part of the Administrative Operations division to achieve the maximum utilization of the Civic Center and of the opportunities available. 2. Oversees all management functions of the pool and fitness center, including processing daily money and receipts, tracking daily usage, reconciling deposits, preparing expense reports, maintaining the membership database, submitting invoices, and processing personnel action forms. Working with the West Plains Civic Center Manager, develops and coordinates an annual schedule of events for Grizzly athletics, pool, and fitness center, coordinating those activities/programs with other Civic Center operations and events. 3. Works with various other university departments on scheduling their events into the West Plains Civic Center, works closely with the West Plains Civic Center Manager to ensure that all events are scheduled and proper set-up requirements are communicated, tracks usage of the center to validate usage and event support charges, and validates all event invoices received from West Plains Civic Center prior to the responsible department processing payment. 4. Assists in the development of goals and budget for the department.3. Responsible for purchasing departmental supplies. Develops specifications for the purchase of aquatic and wellness department equipment and develops and maintains the inventory, a preventative maintenance plan, and a schedule for repair and replacement. 5. Ensures that the West Plains Civic Center pool and fitness room are operated in a safe, effective, and professional manner by supervising operations of the pool and fitness room, instructing lifeguards and staff on policies and procedures regarding pool and fitness room usage, oversees maintenance and cleaning of pool and fitness center equipment and facilities and providing administration for special scheduled events in the pool area. 6. Develops training programs for patrons upon request. 7. Works with the Associate Vice-Chancellor for Administrative Operations to develop, review and/or maintain contractual agreements. Develops and maintains positive relationships with outside partnerships. 8. Supervises departmental staff and coordinates the recruitment, hiring, training, evaluation, and scheduling of all departmental personnel. 9. Reviews and approves all payroll associated with the departmental staff. 10. Promotes a positive image of the campus by participating in community and professional organizations, representing the campus at professional meetings and on community committees. 11. Maintains competency and professional currency through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses required by the Associate Vice-Chancellor for Administrative Operations. 12. Contributes to the overall success of Missouri State University-West Plains by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Education:
A bachelor's degree is required; a bachelor's degree in Business, Sports Management, Facilities Management, Health Education, Exercise Science, or a related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of years of experience and education may be considered for substitution of educational requirements.
Experience:
At least two years of experience is required in progressively responsible related positions. The operation of individual and group wellness, fitness, health education, strength training, and/or aquatics programs is preferred. Experience at the college/university level is preferred. Any experience in management of a facility is preferred.
Skills:
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are required. Excellent supervisory and organizational skills (e.g., ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and direct activities) are required.
License:
Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification or Certified Personal Trainer preferred. Also certification in First Aid & CPR, Lifeguard Instructor Certification and Aquatics Facility Operators Certification required/or to be obtained within one year of employment. Additional certifications in the areas of health and wellness will be considered.
Effort:
Scope of the position requires ability to perform and/or demonstrate various physical fitness and strength exercises, and to assist others performing those exercises. Position requires some handling of hazardous materials in the operation of the aquatic's facility.
Other:
This role requires the ability to respond to the facility during weekends, early mornings, and nighttime hours as necessary to address facility related issues and/or assist with university events.
