Job Description
The Athletics Camp Instructor provides daily guidance and leadership for youth sports camps. This position leads groups through structured daily activities, actively participates with campers, and ensures a safe, engaging, and inclusive recreational environment. The instructor is responsible for supervising campers at all times and may occasionally assist in planning and organizing camp activities. This person may work up to 40 hours each week during the summer months (June to August).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Provide daily supervision and leadership of sports camp activities. Lead groups through structured athletic and recreational activities. Actively participate with campers in games and activities. Supervise campers at all times to ensure safety and appropriate behavior. Assist in planning and implementing camp activities on occasion. Support an inclusive environment by working with individuals of varying abilities and needs. Communicate and collaborate with camp staff and report to the Athletics Director. Maintain a positive, energetic, and engaging presence with youth participants. Knowledge, Skills, and Responsibilities Knowledge of basic sports rules and youth recreational activities. Ability to safely supervise and engage children ages 4-15. Ability to lead group activities and actively participate with campers. Responsible for maintaining supervision and ensuring camper safety at all times. Ability to work with individuals of varying abilities, including special needs participants. Energetic, reliable, and able to promote positive behavior, sportsmanship, and follow direction from the Athletics Director.Minimum Education and Experience:
Experience working with children ages 4-15 in a recreational, educational, or athletic setting. Knowledge of basic First Aid and CPR (certification preferred or willingness to obtain). Must be at least 18 years of age. Knowledge of a variety of sports and athletic activities. Experience working with children with physical and/or intellectual disabilities is a plus.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, dancing, stretching, or lifting all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or exceptional skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving very close tolerances or limits of accuracy.UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS
