General Statement of Duties Performs responsible professional and operational work assisting with the coordination and implementation of Parks and Recreation programs, events, facilities, and daily departmental operations. Responsibilities include recreation programming support, facility scheduling, event coordination, public communication related to Parks and Recreation activities, operational logistics, and supervision of assigned staff and volunteers during programs and events. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director and is evaluated through operational effectiveness, organization, communication, professionalism, and successful implementation of assigned responsibilities. Distinguishing Features of the Class The Parks and Recreation Coordinator assists with the day-to-day operation of the Parks and Recreation Department and serves as the primary operational support position for recreation programs, facilities, and events. The position coordinates logistics, scheduling, participant communication, facility usage, event operations, and assigned recreation activities while ensuring compliance with departmental procedures and operational expectations. The Coordinator may oversee part-time, seasonal, and volunteer personnel during assigned programs and events and assists in maintaining operational readiness of recreation facilities and public spaces. The position emphasizes operational implementation, departmental support, and professional representation of the Parks and Recreation Department and the Town. Duties and Responsibilities Recreation Programs and Events
- Plans, organizes, and directs community-wide events for citizens of all ages.
- Assists with planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating recreation programs, leagues, activities, and community events.
- Coordinates event logistics including schedules, setup, staffing assignments, equipment, vendors, volunteers, participant communication, and operational support.
- Serves as on-site operational coordinator during assigned programs and events.
- Assists with recruitment, coordination, and supervision of volunteers, seasonal personnel, and part-time staff during recreation activities and events.
- Assists with setup, breakdown, and operational coverage of programs, facilities, and special events.
- Maintains operational checklists, schedules, inventories, and event records. Facility Operations and Scheduling
- Coordinates facility reservations, scheduling requests, and recreation usage calendars.
- Assists with opening, closing, setup, inspection, and operational readiness of recreation facilities and event spaces.
- Monitors parks and recreation facilities for maintenance needs, operational issues, and safety concerns and communicates findings through established supervisory channels.
- Coordinates operational requests and logistical needs with other Town departments under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Director.
- Assists in maintaining organized and professional recreation facilities and public event spaces. Administrative and Operational Support
- Responds to routine public inquiries regarding recreation programs, facilities, schedules, registrations, and events.
- Assists with registration processes, participation tracking, inventory management, purchasing documentation, and operational reporting.
- Maintains departmental records, reports, schedules, participation statistics, and operational documentation.
- Provides regular operational updates to the Parks and Recreation Director regarding assigned programs, events, and facilities.
- Assists in implementing departmental procedures, schedules, and operational priorities established by supervisory direction. Communication and Outreach
- Responds to routine public inquiries regarding recreation programs, facilities, schedules, registrations, and events.

- Assists with implementation of operational procedures related to emergency situations, weather events, and public safety concerns during Parks and Recreation activities. Other Duties

- Must be able to physically perform the basic operational functions of standing, walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, speaking, hearing, and repetitive motion.
- Must be capable of performing medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and lesser amounts frequently.
- Must possess the visual acuity necessary to operate computers and office equipment, inspect facilities, review operational materials, and safely oversee programs and events. Desired Education and Experience
- Graduation from an accredited two-year or four-year college or university with coursework in Parks and Recreation, Event Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, Communications, or related field preferred.
- Experience in recreation programming, event coordination, facility operations, customer service, public interaction, or related work preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. Special Requirements
