Job Description

The Coordinator of Member Services and Student Personnel is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the Hamel Recreation Center, department wide memberships, and all hourly personnel. The Hamel Recreation Center serves as a vital hub for student and community well being, engagement, and development, and this role is central to supporting its daily functions. The position provides direct oversight of staff who ensure safe and positive experiences for patrons entering the facility. The position is responsible for processing annual membership revenue for the HRC and managing point of sale operations for the outdoor and indoor pools. Importantly, this role serves as a primary point of contact for the broader UNH and Seacoast community, as all community members engaging with Campus Recreation facilities and programs interact with the systems and staff overseen by this position. The Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that risk management policies and protocols are followed. Duties/Responsibilities Team Leadership and Staff Supervision (40%) Lead the recruitment, hiring, training, and scheduling of Hamel Recreation Building Managers and Staff in the areas of membership, facility operations and programmatic support for both the academic year and summer season. Provide ongoing coaching and training through a student development lens for assigned staff to include, but not limited to risk management protocols, CPR/ First Aid, customer service and leadership. Oversee student staff performance management, to include addressing conduct, attendance and performance concerns in alignment with Campus Recreation and University protocols. Foster a collaborative, diverse, and service-oriented team culture focused on support, attentiveness, initiative, and accountability. Ensure staff follow all safety and risk-management related protocols. Coordinate department wide policies for hourly personnel, with emphasis on risk management and customer service with other hiring managers. In coordination with other hiring managers, develop departmental training content. Coordinate department wide recognition program for upwards of 400 student and adjunct staff. Hamel Recreation Center Operational Oversight (25%) Ensure staff enforce access control, utilize appropriate risk management strategies and first response protocols, and support programs and rental groups within the Hamel Recreation Center. Hold students, faculty, staff, and community members accountable to Hamel Recreation Center facility policies. Make autonomous decisions within business and policy protocols dealing with participant altercations, unplanned events, and weather challenges. Coach staff on the resolution of guest policy violations. Gather, analyze, and report key Hamel Recreation Center operational data. Participate in the development and revision of general building hours, policies and procedures. Coordinate response to building operational concerns. Membership Oversight (25%) Oversee sales, tracking, and communication of memberships for the Hamel Recreation Center, Swasey Indoor Pool, Outdoor Pool, and Mendums Pond. Coordinate point of sale, program and membership registration, access control and equipment checkout at the Hamel Recreation Center. Gather, analyze, and report key departmental membership data to identify patterns, inform decision making, and recommend program improvements. Troubleshoot department software membership issues. Coordinate pro shop function including inventory management, merchandise purchasing, and sales tracking. Coordinate communication with members regarding policies, hours, programs, and updates. Collaborate with Student Life Marketing Staff to promote membership offerings and services. Administrative Oversight (10%) Manage Informal Recreation budget with a focus on maximizing resources and revenue generating endeavors. Maximize use of resources including funding, personnel, facilities, and time to support Hamel Recreation Center operations. Serve on Campus Recreation and University committees. Provide leadership and direction in the development of short- and long-range plans. Participate in ongoing professional development to remain current with best practices in recreation and student development. Other duties assigned by the Division of Student Life.
Requirements Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in recreation, higher education, or related field One year of professional experience in Campus Recreation or a related field One year of supervisory experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise, coach and develop staff to include assigning work, setting performance expectations, providing feedback and fostering a positive, accountable and service-oriented team environment. Demonstrated ability to make timely and well-informed decisions independently in a fast-paced, student-centered environment to include evaluation of situation, assessment of risk, anticipating outcomes, and prioritization of competing demands that support operational effectiveness and support student learning. Knowledge of student development approach when coaching student participants and staff. Strong knowledge of recreation management software, building systems, staff scheduling, and leadership development. Demonstrated ability to lead operations and manage short and long-term planning initiatives. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic campus facility. Strong time management and organization skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously and ensure timely completion of tasks. Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills for working with students, staff, community members, vendors, and campus partners. Public speaking, presentation, and facilitation skills, with the ability to lead engaging, inclusive, and informative trainings. Ability to analyze data and interpret to inform decision-making to adapt programs based on trends and feedback. Attention to detail and ability to follow risk‑management protocols. Ability to understand and support responsible fiscal practices associated with operation of a 158,000-sq-ft facility. Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by program schedules.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in recreation, higher education, or related field CPR and First Aid certified

Compensation Pay Range:

Compensation Pay Range:
