Job Description
Summary The Assistant Camp Counselor supports the Lead Counselor and Program Director in providing a safe, fun, and engaging summer camp experience for children. This role focuses on building positive relationships with campers, participating in daily activities, and helping maintain a safe and well-supervised environment in accordance with Great Bay Kids' policies and New Hampshire Childcare Licensing requirements. Duties Camper Support & Engagement Interact positively and respectfully with campers, helping them feel safe, included, and supported. Participate in and assist with age-appropriate camp activities, games, and routines. Encourage cooperation, kindness, and positive peer interactions among campers. Assist Lead Counselors in planning and carrying out activities. Supervision & Safety Assist with active supervision of campers at all times, following NH licensing ratio and supervision requirements. Help with transitions, headcounts, and maintaining awareness of camper locations. Follow all safety procedures, emergency protocols, and reporting requirements. Immediately report injuries, incidents, or safety concerns to the Lead Counselor or Program Director. Behavior Support Reinforce clear expectations and camp rules using positive, developmentally appropriate behavior guidance. Support Lead Counselors in managing challenging behaviors by redirecting and modeling appropriate behavior. Seek guidance from leadership when behavior concerns arise. Professionalism & Teamwork Follow Great Bay Kids' policies, procedures, and staff expectations at all times. Maintain appropriate boundaries, confidentiality, and professional conduct. Communicate effectively and appropriately with Lead Counselors and supervisors. Arrive on time, prepared, and ready to engage with campers throughout the day. Requirements Must meet New Hampshire child care licensing requirements for assistant group leader. Interest or experience working with children in a camp, childcare, or school-age setting. Positive attitude, reliability, and willingness to learn. Ability to take direction and work as part of a team. CPR/First Aid/Water Safety certifications (or willingness to obtain prior to start). Completes assigned ProSolutions within 30 days of hire. Ability to actively supervise children indoors and outdoors. Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and participate in physical activities throughout the camp day. Fun and Family like atmosphere Half hour paid lunch (if working over 5 hours) About Us Great Bay Kids is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing quality early childhood education and school age enrichment programs for children. Our early education facilities are located in Exeter and Portsmouth, NH with school age programs offered in Exeter and Portsmouth (Summer only).
