Summer Camp Counselor - Rahway Branch

• Please note potential counselors must be at least 18 years of age to apply• The Gateway Family YMCA, Rahway Branch is seeking positive role models who are caring, creative, love to have fun, enjoy being outside, and want to make a positive impact in the lives of youth in our day camp programs. The primary responsibility of a Day Camp Counselor is to supervise and engage kids to ensure their safety and fun while at day camp. Hours are Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm (with an hour lunch break). Both part-time and seasonal full-time positions are available. Looking to fill position quickly! Camp starts on June 22ndd and ends on August 28th. Ensure the health, safety and well-being of participants in the program, by providing appropriate supervision at all times. Plan and implement meaningful activities, lesson plans, and special events that are age-appropriate and exciting based in the areas of arts, character development, creative expression, community service, physical fitness, and/or nutrition Maintain accurate program documentation (attendance, sign in/out forms, behavior/incident/accident reports, as appropriate). Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings and special events at the Y (family nights) as needed. Attend all staff meetings and complete all necessary camp trainings. Maintain a positive working relationship and communication with all co-workers, supervisors and parents of campers. Follow all YMCA Policies and Procedures. Job Requirements Experience working with school-age children in an organized group setting. Experience with a day camp program, a plus. 18 years of age and older Reliable Source of Transportation Comfortable working with large groups of students in grades K-8. Must be able to work cooperatively with other staff members to ensure the program is running at a high quality. Friendly personality and comfortable communicating with parents of students.
