WHO WE ARE The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony represents descendants of three Great Basin Indigenous peoples: the
  • Numu (Northern Paiute)
  • , •Newe (Western Shoshone)•, and •Washeshu (Washoe)•.
These communities lived in harmony with the land for generations before European contact, following seasonal cycles and forming small, efficient social groups for survival. Each group's name means

  • in their own language, reflecting their deep cultural identity and connection to the Earth.
They maintained strong traditions, respected neighboring tribes, and engaged in trade throughout the region. Today, the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony continues to honor these traditions while supporting the well-being, culture, and future of its tribal community.
MAKE A DIFFERENCE AS A RECREATION AIDE
As a Seasonal Recreation Aide with the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, you will play a key role in assisting with all summer recreational activities at your designated facility. Your responsibilities will include ensuring the safety and well-being of participants while facilitating engaging activities that promote a positive and enjoyable experience. REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS RECREATION AIDE JOB
To excel as a Seasonal Recreation Aide with the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, several skills are essential. First, candidates should possess strong communication and interpersonal abilities to interact professionally and courteously with facility users of all ages, including adults, teens, and children. Organizational skills are vital for maintaining the daily, weekly, and monthly schedules for facility use. The ability to conduct routine inspections of recreational equipment and perform janitorial maintenance is necessary to ensure safety and operational effectiveness. Candidates must enforce facility rules consistently and effectively, exhibiting strong problem-solving capabilities when interventions are required. Physical agility is crucial, as the job involves activities like running, jumping, bending, and lifting. A minimum of one year of experience in recreational programming or related fields is required to ensure familiarity with activities and best practices in a recreational environment. Knowledge and skills required for the position are: Assists with recreational activities for adults, teens and children; Participates in special events and activities consistent with recreational programs; Helps to maintain the daily/weekly/monthly schedule for the use of the facility; Conducts routine inspections of the recreational equipment, vehicles and other inventory to ensure safety and operational effectiveness; Performs janitorial maintenance of the facility on a regular basis; Enforces fair and consistent rules of play and intervenes if necessary to ensure that rules and policies of facility use are strictly enforced and adhered to; and Interacts with all facility users in a professional, courteous and respectful manner.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must have a high diploma or a G.E.D. at time of hire; Must be at least 18 years of age at time of employment; Must have physical agility necessary to run, jump, bend, stoop, lift and stand for regular periods of time; and Must have at least one (1) year of prior experience in recreational programs dealing with children and/or adults, coordination of or participation in team sports or professional work in a gym or recreational facility.
