JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Youth Advocate, an incumbent in this class supports the implementation of the Rising Stars Program, a year-round youth empowerment initiative serving City youth ages 10-14 in an after school setting. This position assists with daily program operations, youth supervision, enrichment activities, mentoring engagement, and family/community interaction. The Recreation Assistant plays a vital role in building positive relationships, strengthening life skills, improving academic readiness, and developing leadership potential. Does related work as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Provide safe and consistent supervision of youth during program hours; Serve as a caring adult mentor, role model, and trusted support; Promote pro-social behavior, conflict resolution, and emotional wellness; Assist in planning, setting up, and facilitating daily program activities; Support seasonal programming including school break camps and summer bridge program; Provide light academic assistance as needed; Assist with attendance tracking and program documentation; Help monitor behavior and complete incident reports if needed; Assist in coordinating/chaperoning field trips and community engagements; Help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming program environment; Help foster inclusive, culturally responsive engagement; Attend weekly program meetings (in person or virtually); Diffuse conflict and support positive behavior management; Prepare weekly program summaries; Attend all trainings pertaining to youth development; Uphold The City/Youth Bureau values, professionalism, and community respect.

Monday
  • Friday | 2:30 PM
  • 6:00 PM One Saturday per month | 10:00 AM
  • 1:00 PM Additional hours during school breaks, special events, and summer programming as needed.
