Job Description

HEAD COUNSELOR MINIMUM OUALIFICATIONS
  • 18 years or older, with previous camp experience preferred
  • Ability to supervise those of same or similar age group and to delegate responsibilities
  • Ability to provide leadership while also accepting guidance and direction
  • Exhibit enthusiasm, resourcefulness, responsibility and creativity
  • Display good character, patience, and self-control
  • Ability to be well organized yet flexible to adapt to changing camp setting
  • Exhibit desire to work and communicate with children, peers, supervisors, and the public
DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO
CAMP
DIRECTOR OR ASSISTANT DIRECTOR GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Group leaders are responsible for the overall supervision, development and safety of their group. Each Group leader is directly responsible for the supervision of all campers in their group. Group leaders are required to provide leadership, guidance, supervision, and fun to their assigned campers in a safe and nurturing environment.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
l . Instruct campers on safety, rules, guidelines, and proper skills for all activities. 2. Responsible for all group daily procedures: daily attendance, distribution of camp flyers, notes from home, and dismissal check-off. 3. Guide the group in the participation of group and camp wide activities and assist with weekly schedule of events. 4. Supervise arrival and dismissal areas. 5. Follow assigned schedule. 6. Handle disciplinary problems within the group and notify the Camp Director of any problems--keep daily log to record any incident and the steps taken. 7. During swim activities, be prepared to go in the water. 8. Supervise your campers at all activities and on camp trips. 9. Conduct attendance checks for your group when moving from activity to activity. 10. Maintain a safe and healthy environment. 11. Maintain a fun and positive attitude and set the proper example to your campers. 12. Conduct daily health checks of all campers in group. 13. Inspect campgrounds for any safety hazards and report such to camp director. 14. Give all campers a camper orientation during the first 24 hours of camp. 15. Be familiar with and abide by the rules, regulations, and procedures of the Camp Safety Plan and ensure that your campers do the same. 16. Assist with general clean-up of camp facility. 17. Attend staff orientation and all staff meetings as required. 18. Other duties deemed necessary by the camp director or assistant.
Pay:
$15.00 - $20.00 per hour
