This is a rewarding part-time position in support of daytime, evening, or weekend activities offered throughout Grove City by the Parks and Recreation Department. The Adaptive Recreation Assistant works as part of a team to create a positive environment where individuals with disabilities can learn about themselves, interact with peers, and experience success. The Adaptive Recreation Assistant, under the immediate supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, plays a key role in supporting adaptive and inclusive programming, and is responsible for assisting with Parks and Recreation activities, classes, and events at the Evans Center, Kingston Center, Eagle Pavilion (at Fryer Park), Charles W. Boso Jr. Pavilion (at Buelah Park) and the Grove City Welcome Center and Museum or other facilities as assigned. This role requires excellent communication skills and a commitment to public service.
Minimum Qualifications:
Is at least 18 years of age and has a high school diploma or equivalent. Has the ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends. Has proven ability in oral and written communications. Has the ability to follow all rules, regulations and ethics conduct as set forth by the Grove City Parks and Recreation Department and the City of Grove City. Has the ability to demonstrate good customer service when dealing with participants, instructors, volunteers, the general public, and other city employees, while positively encouraging participants' involvement of offered programs. The City of Grove City is a Drug Free Workplace. All candidates who receive an offer of employment will be required to undergo testing for commonly used drugs, including marijuana. This is a part-time position to be scheduled a maximum of 28 hours per week. Essential Functions of the Position The Adaptive Recreation Assistant shall have the following duties under the appropriate immediate supervisor: Helps to plan and supervise adaptive and inclusive activities, including sports, fitness, and wellness events. Works as part of a team to create a positive environment where individuals with disabilities can learn about themselves, interact with peers, and experience success. Assists in the oversight, development, and delivery of adaptive and inclusive programs offered through the Parks and Recreation Department. Supervises volunteers assigned in specialty area (e.g., schedules and assigns tasks, evaluates performance, recruits and evaluates volunteers, directs instructors) as determined by the Recreation Supervisor. Performs program outreach by attending community events, maintaining community partnerships, etc. Has a basic understanding of and uses person-first language, inclusion practices, and disability awareness. Maintains contact with City personnel/departments, volunteers, the general public, and various government agencies/officials in order to obtain or disseminate information related to the essential position functions. Maintains required licensures and certifications, if any. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance. Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions. Follows all rules, regulations and ethics conduct as set forth by the Grove City Parks and Recreation Department and the City of Grove City. Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor. Obeys and promptly executes all orders of the Administrative Assistant. Working Conditions and Equipment Operated The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment (e.g., toner, correction fluid, etc.); ascends and/or descends stairs; has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons; regularly required to lift, carry, push, or pull objects 30 lbs or less.
