Summer Camp Instructors play a vital role in creating fun, safe, and memorable experiences for youth across a variety of recreation and enrichment programs. This seasonal position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working hands-on with children, leading activities, and contributing to a positive, inclusive camp environment. Camps may be half-day or full-day programs and are offered at multiple community, recreation, and cultural arts facilities throughout the summer. Summer camp programs will run between June 22 and August 20, depending on program location. Training for camps will occur on select dates in May & June. m. This is a seasonal opportunity working with Summer Programs. The schedule for this position may vary depending on placement, and is eligible to work up to 40 hours per week. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Lead and facilitate age-appropriate activity stations, games, and group experiences for youth participants. Supervise youth throughout the program day to ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging camp environment. Monitor participant behavior and implement positive behavior management strategies consistent with program guidelines. Encourage participants to follow program rules, demonstrate respect, and practice positive social interactions. Actively participate in activities alongside campers to promote engagement and model appropriate behavior. Assist with daily program set-up and end-of-day clean-up, including equipment, supplies, and shared spaces. Collaborate with fellow instructors and supervisors to support daily schedules, transitions, and program flow. Attend required staff trainings and meetings prior to and during the camp season.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Experience working with elementary-aged children in a camp, recreation, childcare, or educational setting. Demonstrated ability to manage behavior challenges using positive, age-appropriate strategies. Ability to work indoors and outdoors and remain physically active throughout the day.

Upcoming Projects:
Participation in pre-camp training sessions in May and June to review policies, behavior management strategies, safety procedures, and activity planning. Implementation of daily activity schedules, games, and experiences throughout the summer. Ongoing collaboration with camp leadership to support program quality, camper engagement, and a safe, welcoming camp environment. The principal function of an employee in this class is to participate in the instruction and organization of City recreational programs. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor, but some leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgement and initiative. This class is distinguished from the class of Recreation Instructor I by lead worker duties. Lead worker responsibilities are exercised over employees in the classes of Recreation Instructor I and Recreation Program Aide. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with the assigned supervisor, other City employees, program participants, and the general public. The principal duties of this class are performed at recreation facilities. This is a non-exempt position. Summer Camp Instructor falls under the general Instructor II job classification. Acceptable Experience and Training High School Diploma or GED; and Some related work experience; or Any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work. Bilingual Incentive Pay Available Employees who can demonstrate the ability to speak Spanish, ASL, or any other language spoken by over 10% of the City residents as documented by the most recent U.S. Census, will receive a monthly 3% premium pay. The incentive is only paid on hours in paid status. Proficiency will be determined by a City-administered test.
