Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Day Camp Counselor is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging camp experience for children ages 3-10. This role involves leading age-appropriate activities, ensuring the well-being of campers, and fostering a positive and inclusive environment. The Day Camp Counselor plays a key role in creating a positive and enriching experience for campers, fostering their social, emotional, and cognitive development in a supportive and fun environment.
PRINCIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Sarah Heinz House Standard:
To empower all youth, especially those who need us most, to laugh, learn and lead. Ensure safety of children at all times Strive to develop positive values and ethical behavior in members through teaching, discussion, and modeling. Lead age-appropriate activities, including arts and crafts, games, storytelling, and outdoor play. Follow the daily camp schedule, ensuring smooth transitions between activities, meals, and rest periods. Adapt activities to meet the developmental needs and interests of campers. Provide constant supervision and ensure the safety of campers during all camp activities. Promote a positive and inclusive atmosphere that encourages participation and cooperation. Support and administer policies and traditions of Sarah Heinz House Advise and provide informal guidance to Heinz members. Support and assist with the implementation of programs. Attend and actively participate in all trainings and staff meetings.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Previous experience working with children and youth in a camp, childcare, or educational setting required. High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in education, child development, or related field is a plus. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Enthusiasm for creating a positive and memorable camp experience for young children.
Required Clearances:
FBI Fingerprint, National Criminal Background Check, National Sex Offender Registry, PA Criminal Background Check & PATCH
CORE COMPETENCIES
Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems. Ability to deal with the public. Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth. Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment. Ability to provide a high level of customer service.
