Job Description
Objectives:
The National Park Service (NPS), Denver Service Center (DSC), provides contracting, project management, and planning services for large design and construction projects located at National Park Service Sites Nationwide. This employee will furnish support services of a Technician/ Analyst I in order to support DSC's efforts and mission.Duties:
The services to be provided by the contractor to the Government are as follows: a. Implement or support planning and visitor use surveys, mobility data collection, observational studies, and other data-gathering tools. b. Analyze planning and visitor use data, mobility patterns, demographic information, and visitor behavior to identify trends and outcomes. c. Prepare analytical summaries, datasets, charts, and written findings for planning teams. d. Gather and synthesize background materials related to visitor experience, recreation trends, site conditions, and planning needs. e. Support interdisciplinary project teams by providing analytical input and data interpretation. f. Support public engagement activities, including preparation of materials, logistics, and analysis of public comments or survey responses. g. Maintain organized datasets, project files, administrative records, and planning libraries on network drives and SharePoint sites. h. Assist with project coordination tasks, including tracking schedules, deliverables, and data needs. i. Independently plan and carry out assignments while coordinating with team members. j. Deliver completed products on time and in accordance with project objectives and quality standards. k. Develop ideas on the organization and approach of tasks in consultation with the client/project manager and work cooperatively with other team members. l. Assist with preparation of planning documents, reports, and presentations, including visitor use analyses and supporting content for NEPA documents.Technical Skills :
The minimum education that is required for this position is a bachelor's degree in recreation management, planning, or related fields such as sociology, forestry, landscape architecture, geographic information systems, economics, biological science, park administration, natural resource management and conservation, urban planning, or environmental education. Experience equivalency is a minimum of three (3) years of work experience supporting data collection, survey implementation, planning activities, or analytical tasks related to recreation and/or resource management or public engagement. Preferred experience in the ability to support studies and data analysis, applying planning and design methods for park landscapes and facilities, and using CAD, GIS, and related technologies to address planning issues.Specific functions are as follows:
1. Knowledge of recreation management principles, and factors including visitor behavior, access, and site use. 2. Knowledge of natural and cultural resource considerations relevant to public lands, planning. 3. Knowledge of data collection methods, including recreation/visitor surveys, observational studies, mobility data tools, and public engagement data sources. 4. Skill in analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, including visitor use patterns, demographic information, recreation trends, and socioeconomic factors. 5. Skill in writing planning related content, including current condition analyses, issue summaries, and supporting sections for planning documents such as strategic plans, Environmental Assessments (EAs) and Environmental Impact Statements (EISs). 6. Ability to gather and organize background materials related to visitor use patterns, site conditions, and planning needs. 7. Ability to support public engagement activities, including preparing materials, coding and analyzing public comments, and summarizing stakeholder input. 8. Ability to prepare for and support meetings and workshops, including scheduling, preparing agendas, assembling materials, and documenting discussions. 9. Ability to maintain organized project files, administrative records, datasets, and planning libraries on network drives and SharePoint sites. 10. Ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams, communicate findings clearly, and support collaborative planning processes. 11. Ability to manage workload independently, meet deadlines, and adapt to evolving project needs with minimal technical oversight. 12. Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, and digital collaboration tools, including SharePoint, Teams, and Office 365 applications.Pay:
