Job Description

Under occasional supervision, the Recreation Coordinator is responsible for planning, supervising, and implementing recreational programs including after-school, senior, and summer day camp programs at the Indian Land Recreation Center. The position ensures a safe, engaging, and well-organized environment for program participants and staff. Duties include daily activity planning, staff supervision, accurate recordkeeping, and fostering positive relationships with participants, families, and the public. The Recreation Coordinator reports to the Site or Assistant Facility Manager and plays a key role in supporting the overall mission of Lancaster County Parks and Recreation. Supervises after-school, senior, and summer camp program staff. Oversees daily care, supervision, and safety of children in youth programs. Plans, schedules, and implements daily activities and seasonal events. Maintains accurate records of program attendance, registration, and payments. Collects payments, issues receipts, and ensures proper registration forms are on file. Assists with marketing and promotional efforts for recreation programs. Implements and enforces discipline policies, communicating concerns with parents. Assists children with homework and supports a positive, nurturing environment. Maintains adequate supplies including snacks, crafts, equipment, and cleaning materials. Monitors customer behavior; enforces compliance with facility rules and safety protocols. Maintains community bulletin boards and other communication tools within the facility. Prepares and submits reports such as attendance records, incident reports, and timecards. Operates standard office and custodial equipment, including computers, phones, copiers, etc. Interacts professionally with parents, participants, coworkers, volunteers, and the general public. Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong leadership and organizational skills. Knowledge of recreational programming, youth development, and behavior management. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Proficient in maintaining records and using office software. Ability to multitask and manage staff and program needs effectively. Commitment to providing a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for all participants. Familiarity with safety and emergency procedures in recreation settings. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Education, or a related field preferred. Three to five years of experience in recreation programming, youth services, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire. Must pass a background check and drug screening. Valid South Carolina driver's license required. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Work is performed indoors and occasionally outdoors in all weather conditions. Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and active engagement with children. Exposure to noise, cleaning products, and various physical activities.
