Job Description

Job Responsibilities Responsibilities of the
PT Equine Assistant:
The purpose of this position is to assist the Equine Coordinator in all areas of the equine program, including the daily care of agency-owned and leased horses; supervision of students caring for their own horses; supervision of students working with agency horses during after-school lessons, classes, or other activities; maintenance of the equine center grounds and facilities; and teaching students general horse care, handling, grooming, saddling, and riding skills. Candidates must be comfortable working around horses, including feeding, turning in/out, cleaning stalls, moving hay, checking and filling water, performing routine feeding tasks, checking and repairing fences, and completing other general farm duties. Candidates must also be able to safely handle horses on a halter and lead rope for the farrier, veterinarian, demonstrations, and other routine handling needs. The ability to supervise students while performing these tasks and to coach them in developing proper handling and horsemanship skills is required. Candidates must demonstrate a willingness to learn and expand their equestrian skill set. Works under the guidance of the Equine Coordinator with limited supervision. The equine center is focused on teaching students to be thoughtful and develop strong horsemanship skills. The employee is expected to use good judgment, discretion, tact, and professionalism at all times. Daily care and feeding of agency horses: Includes feeding, watering, turnout, basic medical care, and related tasks. Supervision, transportation, and coaching of students. Includes oversight during chores, riding activities, and other equine center programs.
Other farm tasks as required:
Includes mowing, weed-eating, bush-hogging, and general facility maintenance. Other duties as assigned. Minimum and Additional Requirements High school diploma. A minimum of two years of experience working with horses and previous experience working with youth. A valid driver's license.
Additional Requirements:
Position may require overnight travel. Position may require the employee to work evenings and weekends. Position requires on-call shifts and callback. Position requires routine driver duties. Position requires frequent stooping and/or bending.
Position requires frequent lifting:
50 lbs. Position requires conditionally essential declaration. Position may be required to report to work during emergency situations. Requires the ability to perform job duties in various weather conditions, including rain, snow, extreme heat, and other inclement weather. Rotating weekend and holiday work is required. Transportation of students to and from the equine center by agency vehicle.
