Activities Assistant Activities Assistant is responsible for planning, organizing, and facilitating recreational and therapeutic activities to enhance the quality of life for participants Activity Assistant duties and responsibilities An Activity Assistant's main responsibility is to ensure that a group of people has engaging, enjoyable activities to participate in. Some of their day-to-day job duties may include: Brainstorming ideas for activities Creating schedules that detail the activities by day, week and month Advertising activities that are open to the public Attending or leading activities to ensure that events go smoothly Adhering to budgetary guidelines when planning activities Working with vendors to provide food, music, supplies and services for activities as needed Soliciting feedback from residents to identify what worked well and what areas of improvement exist Keeping detailed records of activities to track participation rates, costs and other metrics An Activity Assistant helps keep people entertained. In long-term care facilities, Activity Assistants create opportunities for socialization, exercise and creative thinking that can improve residents' quality of life. Activity Assistant skills and qualifications Creative thinking skills to continuously plan unique events Budgeting skills to control activity costs Organizational skills to plan multiple events at once Interpersonal skills to interact positively with other staff members and activity participants Computer skills to use email, word processing, recordkeeping and spreadsheet software Problem-solving skills to overcome obstacles before and during activities Written communication skills to compile participant surveys and activity reports Knowledge of CPR and basic first aid

High school diploma or equivalent. High level of empathy and patience. Ability to speak clearly and hear well enough to communicate with others. Must be able to stand for long periods, walk frequently, and assist residents.
