SUMMARY/SCOPE
The Department of Kinesiology, Health and Recreation and the Department of Physical Therapy seek an applicant to join our dynamic and passionate faculty as an assistant professor. This is a 12-month, full-time faculty position. The preferred candidate must have a physical therapy license with the certified strength conditioning specialist (CSCS) credential. The ideal candidate will align with the mission of HSU, an education enlightened by Christian faith and values.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage field experience and internships through coordination and communication with various entities for internships and field experiences within the Department. Use Canvas, the learning management system, to grade and provide effective feedback to students in a timely manner. Assume the role of primary instructor for a variety of courses within the KHR department and secondary summer session role in PT Department. Prepare and present materials in areas of assigned courses that meet learning objectives. Develop assessments to evaluate student competencies within courses. Be an active member in assigned university and department committees. Establish and carry out an active scholarly agenda. Participate in university, community, and professional service activities. Advise and mentor students through the curriculum and on research projects. Complete yearly university assessments for self and peer evaluation. Assist in laboratory and practical exam experiences; serve as an expert guest speaker within and outside the department. Participate in patient care and program pro bono clinical services within the PT department as needed. Represent the KHR and PT Department and University in an ethical and Christian manner. Demonstrate an active interest in the Department's mission activities. Display excellent communication skills including conflict resolution and mentoring. Maintain a professional appearance and attitude. Ability to implement active online teaching applications (Zoom, Flip grid, etc.) preferred. Possessing and maintaining the CSCS credential and CEU requirements. Other duties as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
There are no supervisor responsibilities, except for supervision of student workers as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
COMPUTER SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Internet software and the Learning management system (Canvas).
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science and a Doctor of Physical Therapy is required. Masters in Exercise Science preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) required Current CPR/AED certification for all ages is required. Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a PT in the state of Texas is required.

This position requires standing/sitting for lectures, stooping, squatting, kneeling, getting up and down from the floor and lifting up to 50 lbs. frequently. The job is active in nature. Must be able to stand and walk during teaching and programming events/activities. Must be able to make trips across campus to various buildings and offices. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Indoor state-of-the-art classroom teaching environment with 40 students/class.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This position is a Full-Time, Exempt Level Faculty position with a teaching load at the Hardin-Simmons University campus. Fall and Spring semesters will be full time in KHR, and summer teaching in the Department of Physical Therapy. Must be willing to relocate to Abilene, Texas, or the surrounding area to teach in-person classes on the HSU Campus Must have and maintain a valid Class C Driver's License and maintain a clear driving record to be insurable under the university liability policy. Must be able to drive to complete work assignments on and off campus, as needed. Infrequent travel may be required on occasion in order to attend training, etc. Additional travel may be required for student evaluation/sponsorship and/or professional development.
