- Esports Graduate Assistant (Fall 2026 Start) Employee Class Graduate Assistant College Work Study Position No Department Campus Recreation Division Division of Student Affairs Hours per week 28 Hiring Rate Graduate Assistants will receive $10,000 for a 10-month appointment (divided and paid bi-weekly) and a scholarship of $6,000 ($3,000 each semester).
Registration to the state and national NIRSA conferences will be paid. Summer employment is available. Health and optional insurance benefits may be available.
Preferred Student Classification Graduate Student Nature & Purpose of Position Job Summary:
The Graduate Assistant for Esports is responsible for assisting with the organization and administration of a comprehensive Esports program.
Supervision:
This position reports to the Associate Director of Programs. This position helps supervise the day-to-day operations of the assigned program area and provides day-to-day direction, guidance and supervision to the students assigned to support in the assigned program area.
Primary Duties:
May include but are not limited to the following: Assist in guiding the Campus Recreation Department in a manner that is consistent with the goals of the department, Division of Student Affairs, and the mission of Sam Houston State University; recruit, train, supervise and evaluate student staff; supervise Esports events and the Esports Lab during the evening and on weekends; assist with marketing and promoting the Esports Program ; evaluate and recommend changes for Esports activities and staff as needed; create leagues and schedules for Esports events and participants; fassist with purchasing, inventory, and maintenance of equipment; collect and track relevant information for Esports competitive teams such as rosters, participation numbers, and results;other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Sport Management, or related field. Candidates must have knowledge/experience in Esports or sports management, strong human relations skills, and acceptance into SHSU graduate school. CPR /First Aid Certification preferred. Must maintain a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester to hold eligibility.
