PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. Assists in ensuring the delivery of high-quality recreation programs and services to the community and assumes the responsibilities of the Supervisor in their absence. Assists in managing assigned staff and activities to maintain Landa Recreation Center in a safe condition and to meet community needs; provides leadership to assure that facilities are maintained, and programs are coordinated in alignment with the City's strategic objectives, State and Federal laws, and within allocated budget. Performs liaison functions with local schools, community colleges and universities regarding program and activity planning, educational opportunities, and research projects. Assists in managing recreation programming and special event coordination and setup; develops additional programming and events to ensure program growth based on customer preference and trends. Assists with hiring, training, and evaluating assigned staff; develops staff skills and conducts performance evaluations; meets regularly with staff to discuss and resolve workload and technical issues; reviews the work of assigned staff to assure the quality and timely accomplishment of assigned duties and responsibilities. Assists in developing procedures, forms, guidelines, and training programs for all assigned staff members; develops and maintains records, systems, and procedures, as well as written and oral reports and presentations. Assists in monitoring and reviewing trends in public recreation operations and management issues and recommends improvements in the City programs. Works closely with recreation organizations, community groups, vendors, and regional recreation associations to promote City programs, coordinate operations, and facilitate community participation. Responds to all requests for information; provides information to other recreation program managers and organizations; research recreation issues and recommends solutions. Assists in managing social media accounts; responds to inquiries and creates posts as appropriate; communicates upcoming Parks activities and events. Assists in coordinating special events such as the annual holiday programming, Daddy Daughter Dance, and Parks and Rec Month. Performs other duties as assigned or required. Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND two (2) years customer service/public interaction experience required, with recreation programming experience preferred.Required Licenses or Certifications:
Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License. Must possess or be able to obtain within 1 year of employment: Community First Aid and Safety/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) / Automated External Defibrillator (AED).Required Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of recreation program, day camp, and special event management. Marketing and promotion of programs and services. Operation characteristics, services, and activities of recreation facility management. Federal and State safety laws and regulations. Principles and practices of public relations and administrative management, including personnel rules, project management, cost accounting, budgeting, and employee supervision.Required Skill in:
Interpreting customer and facility needs and solving customer service and public relations issues. Promoting and enforcing safe work practices. Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, demands and events. Analyzing problems, providing alternatives, identifying solutions in support of established goals, projecting consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations. Responding to emergencies and determining corrective actions using available resources. Establishing and maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships with City employees, State and Federal agencies, and the general public. Operating and maintaining a personal computer utilizing a variety of business software and communications equipment. Effective, clear, and concise communication, both verbally and in writing.Your Work Environment:
Work is performed in an office environment; outdoors in all weather conditions; is subject to sitting, standing, bending, and reaching for extended periods of time; and must be able to safely pull, push, lift and carry items weighing up to forty (40) pounds. Must be able to work irregular hours including weekends, holidays, and evenings. May be required to work immediately before, during or after an emergency or disaster.
