PT Activities Assistant (Older Adults and Veterans) Waco Housing Authority & Affiliates Waco, TX Job Details Part-time $17 an hour 9 hours ago Qualifications Community outreach programs Working with individuals with disabilities Outdoor work Local agency collaboration Working with geriatric patients High school diploma or GED Driver's License Safe environment creation Cleaning Workshop facilitation Communication skills Entry level Community resource coordination Time management Full Job Description Position Summary The Part-Time Activities Assistant supports the Waco Housing Authority's Resident Services Department in delivering programs and activities that enhance the health, wellness, and quality of life of older adult and veteran residents. This position assists in creating a supportive and engaging environment that promotes social connection, independence, and overall well-being, including services tailored to the unique needs of residents. The Activities Assistant will also train to be a Bingocize facilitator and lead these classes as well. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist in planning and facilitating activities for residents, mainly older adults and veteran residents, including:
  • Social and recreational programs
  • Health and wellness activities
  • Educational workshops and life skills sessions
  • Arts, crafts, and enrichment opportunities Support programming that promotes:
  • Socialization and reduction of isolation
  • Independent living and aging in place
  • Access to supportive services Assist with outreach and engagement of residents at assigned sites Set up, monitor, and clean up activity areas before and after events Provide respectful engagement with residents, including those with mobility or health needs Assist residents with participation in activities (non-medical assistance only) Track attendance and participation for reporting Distribute program materials and encourage participation Support coordination with community partners, including health providers and veteran organizations Maintain a safe and inclusive environment Provide general support to Resident Services staff Qualifications High school diploma or GED required Experience working with older adults, veterans, or individuals with disabilities preferred Experience in social services, recreation, healthcare support, or community programming is a plus Strong interpersonal and communication skills Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to work with older adults and veterans with patience and empathy Awareness of aging-related needs and veteran-specific challenges Strong organizational and time-management skills Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism Dependable and flexible Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout activity spaces Ability to lift up to 25 pounds Ability to assist residents with light, non-medical participation Work Environment Work performed at multiple WHA sites and Freedom's Path Indoor community rooms and occasional outdoor spaces Frequent interaction with older adults, veterans, and service providers Compensation Part-time hourly position based on WHA pay scale Additional Requirements Must pass background check in accordance with WHA and VA-related requirements Valid Texas driver's license.
