Job Description

The Department of Parks & Recreation is seeking a multifaceted leader to join the team as an Assistant Director III and assists with overseeing the delivery of a full range of leisure services and park management and maintenance activities, including recreation and adaptive recreation, cultural and community services, special events, senior activities, and the administration of parks and open space management and landscape maintenance. The Assistant Director II will provide highly responsible and complex administrative and management support for departmental operations. The Assistant Director III will contribute to the coordination and direction of daily operations for the Department of Parks & Recreation. Under the Director of Parks & Recreation's direction, the incumbent will oversee the activities of professional, technical, administrative, general, trades, and specialized personnel. The Assistant Director III will assist with the coordination of daily activities, contribute to departmental strategic planning, and assist with overseeing the budgeting process. The role is also responsible for assisting with the creation, implementation, and enforcement of department policies and procedures. Department Hiring Salary Range:
$136,980 - $167,582 Essential functions include but are not limited to: Assists with the coordinat6ion of daily activities for the department. Directs and delegates the work of subordinate managers and employees. Performs performance evaluations on employees who directly report to the position. Assists in facilitating the planning, development, coordination, and administration of the department general fund and capital improvement budgets; forecasts, prioritizes, and recommends service levels and funding requirements for operational programs and capital improvement projects; assists Bureau Managers in monitoring and analyzing their budgets on a quarterly basis; oversees the annual evaluation of service charges and user fees. Contributes to the creation and implementation of strategic plans and goals that align with the City's core values. Measures effectiveness in relation to the department's goals. Modifies plans and goals as necessary, keeping the best interests of the City and its residents in mind. Assists with identifying service levels and assigns projects and programmatic areas of responsibility; reviews and evaluates recreational programming and park management procedures; meets with staff to identify and resolve problems and issues. Supports the creation, implementation and enforcement of the policies and procedures, making exceptions and/or modifications the department policies and procedures based on specific situations. Oversees the proper staff of the department. Provides and directs training of staff as needed. Identifies opportunities for new training. May be required to develop training materials/programs as needed. Assists with the creation and adherence to the department's budget. Works with management from other departments to create Citywide policies and procedures. Acts as the Director of Parks & Recreation when the Director is absent. Serves as a representative of the department and City by attending meetings, serving on committees, and attending business functions ad needed. Performs other department specific tasks as assigned. Work requires specialized knowledge in a professional or technical field. Work requires professional level of knowledge of a discipline equivalent to that which is acquired in a Master's degree-level of study, preferably in the area assigned. Five years of experience in facilities management or ground maintenance, preferably in a management capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred License(s) and/or Certification(s): Valid Driver's License required. Certified Park and Recreation Executive (CPRE) or Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification required.
The preferred candidate will possess:
Experience with Commission for Accreditation of Parks and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) accreditation.
