SUMMARY We are seeking enthusiastic and responsible Summer Camp Counselors to lead and supervise campers in a variety of outdoor activities in a mountain setting. Counselors will work closely with fellow staff members to ensure a fun, safe, and engaging environment for children aged 6 - 12. Our summer camp offers weekly themed programs that provide kids with an exciting and enriching outdoor experience. Whether it's hiking, outdoor games, or engaging in creative activities, our campers get to explore and grow in a supportive environment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Including the following. Other duties may be assigned. Lead and supervise campers in daily activities, including outdoor adventures, sports, arts, and educational programs. Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers by following safety protocols and emergency procedures. Foster a positive and inclusive camp atmosphere through team building and mentorship. Assist in planning and executing engaging camp activities.

Communicate effectively with campers, parents, and fellow staff members. Handle minor behavioral and medical issues in accordance with camp policies. Maintain a clean and organized camp environment. Ensure health and safety standards. Show sensitivity to campers' needs, interact appropriately with them in various situations, appropriately model behavior and use positive behavior management techniques. Monitor children during swim time including acting as a "lookout," helping children in the pool.
RESPONSIBILITIES TO SAFETY
Protect the safety of self, workers, and Grand Targhee Resort guests. Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor without delay. Report safety-related accidents and incidents at once to immediate supervisor. Follow all company and department safety policies and procedures as outlined in the Resort's Occupational Safety & Health Compliance Manual and department-specific procedures or manuals. Operate equipment safely so that it will not lead to injury to yourself or others. Drive in accordance with the law and Grand Targhee Resort policies.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
WORK SCHEDULE
Due to the nature of the recreation industry, we are in operation seven days a week. This includes weekends and holidays and there is no guarantee of hours. Flexible working hours may be required based on the business levels. Full-time seasonal position running from June 22nd - August 21st Workdays are typically Monday-Friday, with occasional weekend shifts. Must be available for staff training as early as June 1st before camp begins. EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
Must have prior childcare experience and participate in staff training. Must have knowledge of laws and legal issues involving childcare. High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certified Lifeguard preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Prior experience working with children in a camp, educational, or recreational setting is preferred. Passion for outdoor activities and working with kids. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before the camp season). May need Childcare Licensing through the Department of Family Services if assisting in other Youth Program Departments. Ability to work in an outdoor environment and participate in physical activities. Able to successfully pass a criminal background check. Flexibility to gain certifications needed to assist in other Youth Program Departments. Must have good guest services skills and ability to work with children and parents.
IMMUNIZATION RECORDS
May need to provide documentation of or obtain needed Immunization Records in accordance with Youth Program Staff Policies. These are subject to change.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Able to accurately read and make measurements.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Excellent verbal communication skills.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Employees must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, injury, etc.); and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
