What We Offer Monday-Friday daytime schedule Opportunity to help provide nutritious meals to children in need throughout the Central Gulf Coast A mission-driven environment where your work directly benefits the community Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesKitchen Operations & Food Production Oversee daily kitchen operations to ensure efficient food preparation, safe food handling, and timely meal distribution. Lead the assembly and preparation of meals for Child Nutrition Program sites, ensuring accuracy, consistency, quality, and compliance with program requirements. Develop monthly menus that meet USDA child nutrition guidelines in collaboration with the Child Nutrition Director. Maintain a safe, sanitary, and organized kitchen environment that meets or exceeds local health department, USDA, and ServSafe standards. Monitor kitchen operations and partner site food handling practices to ensure safe and compliant procedures are consistently followed. Staff Leadership & Development Supervise kitchen staff, including scheduling, training, coaching, and performance management. Ensure all staff adhere to kitchen policies, food safety requirements, and organizational procedures. Provide ongoing guidance and support to staff to promote operational excellence and compliance. Compliance & Program Administration Ensure kitchen staff follow all applicable Child Nutrition Program regulations and guidelines as directed by the Child Nutrition Director and Child Nutrition Specialist. Maintain accurate and organized records of kitchen production, inventory, invoices, and related documentation. Submit required reports and documentation to the Child Nutrition Specialist in a timely manner. Participate in all required training, including ServSafe certification, food handler training, and USDA Child Nutrition Program requirements. Inventory & Procurement Conduct weekly inventory counts of food, supplies, and kitchen materials. Monitor inventory levels and communicate purchasing needs to the Child Nutrition Director. Compile food and supply orders for approval and procurement. Assist with food procurement and inventory management to support uninterrupted program operations. Qualifications Experience managing commercial kitchen operations, institutional food service, or large-scale meal production. Supervisory experience with the ability to lead, train, and motivate staff. Knowledge of food safety regulations, sanitation standards, and inventory management practices. Familiarity with USDA Child Nutrition Programs and compliance requirements is helpful but not required. ServSafe Manager Certification or ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe. Strong organizational, communication, and recordkeeping skills. Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and community partners. Position Summary The Kitchen Manager is responsible for overseeing all kitchen operations in support of Feeding the Gulf Coast's Child Nutrition Programs. This position manages food procurement, meal preparation, sanitation, inventory control, and staff supervision while ensuring compliance with USDA child nutrition requirements, food safety regulations, and organizational standards. The Kitchen Manager works closely with the Child Nutrition Director, Child Nutrition Specialist, and Child Nutrition Programs Manager to ensure high-quality meal production and successful program implementation. About Feeding the Gulf Coast As a member of Feeding America and a United Way Member Agency, Feeding the Gulf Coast works through member organizations and special programs to provide nutritious food to individuals and families facing hunger due to systemic poverty, personal crisis, or disaster. In addition to food distribution, Feeding the Gulf Coast educates the public on domestic hunger, proper nutrition, and related issues. The organization serves a 24-county area across South Alabama, South Mississippi, and the Florida Panhandle.
