As a mission-driven enterprise of La Puente Home, Inc., every cup served helps support our work providing food, shelter, and advocacy for individuals and families experiencing homelessness and crisis. We're looking for a hands-on leader who is passionate about developing people, maintaining high standards for coffee and food quality, and creating an exceptional customer experience. Position Summary The Milagros Coffee House Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of the coffee house's daily operations. Success in this role requires a leader who can effectively manage and develop a team, maintain high standards for coffee and food quality, oversee kitchen operations, and deliver an exceptional customer experience. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable coaching employees, working alongside staff during busy shifts, solving operational challenges, and ensuring the business operates efficiently and profitably. This position combines hands-on hospitality management with the opportunity to lead a mission-driven community business. What We're Looking For We're seeking a manager who brings: Strong team leadership experience with the ability to hire, train, coach, motivate, and hold employees accountable. Knowledge of specialty coffee operations , including espresso preparation, beverage quality, workflow, and customer service. Experience overseeing kitchen operations , including food preparation, food safety, inventory management, and sanitation. Experience creating staff schedules, managing labor, and maintaining appropriate staffing levels. Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Experience with inventory management, purchasing, vendor relationships, and cost control. Excellent communication, customer service, and conflict-resolution skills. A positive, hands-on leadership style with a willingness to work alongside the team during busy shifts. A commitment to creating a welcoming environment for customers, employees, and the community. Key Responsibilities Staff Leadership Recruit, hire, train, coach, and evaluate baristas, kitchen staff, and volunteers. Build a positive, collaborative, and accountable workplace culture. Create staff schedules and ensure appropriate coverage. Provide ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development. Lead by example and support the team during busy service periods. Coffee House & Kitchen Operations Oversee all front-of-house and kitchen operations. Maintain high standards for coffee, food quality, cleanliness, and customer service. Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation requirements. Manage inventory, purchasing, vendor relationships, and supplies. Coordinate equipment maintenance and facility repairs. Obtain ServSafe Manager Certification within 30 days of hire. Financial & Administrative Management Monitor daily sales, deposits, and financial reporting. Assist with budgeting, labor management, and cost control. Submit accurate payroll, timesheets, and operational reports. Collaborate with Finance and organizational leadership to support business performance. Customer Experience Foster a welcoming environment for every guest. Resolve customer concerns professionally and promptly. Train staff in hospitality, communication, and guest engagement. Continuously improve the customer experience and service standards. Community Engagement & Mission Operate Milagros as a successful, mission-driven business. Plan and support community events, including open mic nights and special programming. Coordinate marketing initiatives and community outreach. Build meaningful connections between Milagros and La Puente's mission. Represent Milagros and La Puente with professionalism throughout the community. Qualifications Required Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to lead, motivate, and hold a team accountable. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities. High integrity, professionalism, and accountability. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays. Preferred Two or more years of supervisory or management experience in a coffee shop, café, restaurant, or hospitality setting. Experience managing both front-of-house and kitchen operations. Experience with specialty coffee preparation and coffee shop workflows. Experience with inventory management, purchasing, and vendor relationships. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, scheduling software, and daily financial reconciliation. ServSafe Manager Certification, or the ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire. Work Environment Fast-paced coffee house environment. Standing and walking for extended periods (8+ hours). Frequent use of espresso equipment, kitchen equipment, and POS systems. Exposure to heat, steam, and commercial kitchen conditions. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Consistent on-site presence is required.
