General Manager — Grassroots Ice Cream Simsbury, CT | Full-Time | $52,000-$62,000/year + bonus The Opportunity Grassroots Kitchen & Creamery has been in Simsbury for two years. We're currently best known for our ice cream — made with high-quality ingredients, no shortcuts — but we're also a full fast casual restaurant, open seven days a week. Many people know us for ice cream; our goal is to become a go-to local dining spot as well. We're looking for a General Manager to run this location: own the operation, lead the team, and help build the restaurant's presence in the community. This is a hands-on role. You'll be on the floor, setting the standard, and working directly with ownership to grow what this location can do. This is a hands‑on role where you'll be on the floor, setting the pace and working closely with leadership to grow the location A Year Round Snapshot of the Role Summers are fast, full, and high-energy. You'll lead a primarily high school and college-aged team through our busiest stretch. In the winter, volume currently drops. Some days you'll run the front of house with kitchen staff on-site and no one else. If you're someone who stays sharp and self-directed when things get quiet, that works well here. You'll report to our District Manager and work collaboratively on staffing, operational, and strategic decisions. Day-to-day, you run the location. Primary Responsibilities The day-to-day performance of the shop: team, service, and product standards Scheduling, staffing, and training a young, seasonal team, with accountability and respect Inventory, ordering, and basic cost controls A clean, organized, food-safe environment at all times Following through on systems without needing reminders Upholding standards consistently, even when it's uncomfortable Partnering with ownership to grow awareness of our full menu and catering offerings among local businesses and the broader community This Is a Strong Fit If You Take ownership of your work and follow through, even when on your own Lead and mentor new team members with confidence, creating an environment that feels energizing and rewarding for everyone. Hold people accountable clearly and respectfully Stay productive and focused during slow periods Notice problems and address them in real time Are genuinely interested in helping build something meaningful, not just maintaining the status quo This Is Not a Fit If You Prefer a hands-off or behind-the-scenes management style Need constant direction to complete tasks Avoid difficult conversations with team members Struggle to stay motivated when it's slow Are looking for a seasonal or short-term role Qualifications 2+ years of food service or hospitality management experience preferred Strong leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills Working knowledge of food safety and basic kitchen operations ServSafe Certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days Availability for nights, weekends, and holidays
