JOB DESCRIPTION
The PSO III Shift Lead serves as the first level of leadership within the Winterthur Public Safety Department. This position is responsible for overseeing daily shift operations, including managing work activities, conducting team meetings, reviewing public safety reports, and assigning tasks. Additional responsibilities include facilitating employee training, fostering motivation, evaluating performance, and initiating disciplinary referrals when necessary. The Shift Lead also submits equipment and supply requests and provides input on policy matters as part of the Department Leadership Team. This role requires the application of modern public safety practices, sound judgment, and independent initiative to achieve departmental goals. Frequent interaction with the public demands tact, professionalism, and decisiveness. Work is performed in accordance with departmental Standard Operating Procedures and under the guidance of the Director of Safety and Security and/or the Public Safety Supervisor. The PSO III is expected to demonstrate professionalism and leadership in resolving situations positively. Responsibilities include determining appropriate actions during emergencies, deploying resources effectively, and de-escalating conflicts. As the first point of contact for many guests, visitors, and vendors, the PSO III must consistently provide a warm, welcoming, and helpful demeanor to ensure a positive Winterthur experience.
Compensation:
$18.00
  • $20.
00/hr. bonuses available for those with EMT certification and/or fire department training.

Responsibilities Leadership The PSO III is a member of the Department leadership team and will direct the activities associated with a shift. The PSO III will work to ensure a good work environment for their team members. This involves creating a positive and supportive atmosphere where employees feel valued, respected, and able to thrive. Responsible for ensuring all Department Standardized Operating Procedures are followed. Determine response and dispatch investigative actions for any type of incident involving the safety of staff, guests, assets, or property. Review of all reports to ensure accuracy, thoroughness, and adherence to Department and organizational policies during the shift and signs off prior to submitting to management, reports may include the Daily Activity Report, Incident Report(s), and Workers Comp/HR Reports. Prepares related paperwork/photos and sends to appropriate Winterthur divisions and department leaders. Ensure that all public safety shift personnel are on time, clocked in, in proper uniform, and have received all applicable equipment for their assigned shift, as well as ensuring all staff have clocked out and returned all issued equipment. Making sure that all Public Safety Officers report to their assigned post at the scheduled time. Responsible for providing all pass on information, including upcoming shift events, etc. Identify, investigate, and troubleshoot issues that occur within the Winterthur Public Safety Department security and access control systems. Generate new badges, change existing access control levels, and disable badges while maintaining all required paperwork.
Key Responsibilities Systems Monitoring:
Oversee security systems, HVAC and mechanical alarms, fire systems, and CCTV; perform basic troubleshooting for access control (AMAG), video surveillance (Salient), and art security (Art Sentry).
Shift Oversight:
Maintain accurate shift logs, ensure staffing coverage, and enforce Standard Operating Procedures.
Property & Communications:
Manage property control documentation and provide timely notifications during emergencies or incidents affecting staff or operations.
Emergency Response:
Follow established evacuation and safety protocols; identify and address hazardous conditions proactively.
Policy Enforcement:
Ensure compliance with all policies governing people, vehicles, and property on Winterthur grounds.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent proof of education with a minimum 3-5 years in public safety, security, or law enforcement, with leadership or supervisory experience.
Preferred:
1+ years' relevant experience in leadership or supervisory role with CPR/AED and First Aid required; additional certifications in emergency management, conflict resolution and leadership development
Knowledge/Skills:
Valid driver's license with no conviction for driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol within 3 years of application. Certified copy is to be provided by applicant upon request. No convictions for theft or sexually related offenses. The ability to talk to people in a friendly manner that gets results. A "team" orientation and willingness to collaborate. Flexible work days/hours and ability to work overtime, on occasion with little notice. This position requires clear thinking during any situation that may arise with a calm and professional demeanor. Proficient oral and written communication skills. C.P.R./First Aid certification is preferred. Without prior certification, must be able to pass a written and practical test after attending a training course as designated by Winterthur. Basic computer skills, including word processing, accessing and managing a Winterthur provided e-mail account, and navigating the internet Ability to utilize computerized security and office systems, after training
Essential Functions:
Must be able to work within the confines of the Museum or other Collection areas that require tight security and attention to detail. Must enjoy dealing with the public in a Cultural Property setting. Must be capable of performing C.P.R. /First Aid after training. Must be able to sit in and operate a patrol vehicle for a minimum 8-hour shift. Must be able to climb multiple stairs (9 floors), walk or stand for extended periods of time (8 hours). Must be able to lift 50+ pounds. Must be able to climb a ladder.
