THE COMMONS CLUB GENERAL MANAGER/CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER POSITION OVERVIEW
The General Manager/COO serves as the senior operating executive of The Commons Club and is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and day-to-day management of all club operations, facilities, amenities, programs, and staff. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the General Manager/COO is expected to deliver an exceptional member experience while fostering a culture centered on hospitality, professionalism, accountability, and operational excellence. The General Manager/COO oversees all aspects of club operations, including food and beverage, fitness and wellness, spa operations, racquets, member services, events and programming, facilities, finance, human resources, and administrative functions. This leader must possess a strong operational presence and maintain highly visible engagement with members and staff while ensuring consistent execution of the Club's service standards and strategic objectives. Working closely with the Board of Directors and department leaders, the General Manager/COO will help guide the continued evolution of The Commons Club by recruiting, developing, and empowering a strong leadership team while identifying opportunities to enhance programming, elevate hospitality standards, strengthen financial performance, improve operational efficiencies, and further position the Club as one of Southwest Florida's leading lifestyle-focused private club communities. The successful candidate will be an approachable, team-oriented leader with strong communication skills, sound financial acumen, and demonstrated success leading sophisticated hospitality, private club, or lifestyle-oriented operations. The General Manager/COO must possess the ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on operational involvement while cultivating a positive workplace culture that supports employee engagement, development, accountability, and retention.
KEY PRIORITIES OF THE GENERAL MANAGER/CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
Provide visible, approachable, and engaged leadership that fosters trust, collaboration, and excellence throughout the Club.
Recruit, develop, mentor, evaluate, and retain a high-performing leadership team capable of consistently delivering exceptional service, operational excellence, and member satisfaction.
Establish clear expectations, accountability measures, and professional development opportunities for department leaders while fostering a culture of ownership, communication, and continuous improvement.
Identify and implement opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, communication, and member satisfaction across all areas of the organization.
Elevate the member experience through exceptional hospitality, innovative programming, and meaningful relationship-building.
Strengthen member engagement through a highly responsive leadership presence and proactive communication.
Guide the continued evolution of dining, wellness, fitness, recreation, and social programming to ensure relevance and excellence.
Ensure member feedback is thoughtfully evaluated and incorporated into operational planning, service enhancements, and strategic decision-making.
Partner closely with the Board of Directors to advance the Club's strategic vision and long-term objectives.
Lead the development, management, and execution of annual operating and capital budgets with a focus on fiscal responsibility and organizational sustainability.
Maintain strong financial stewardship through disciplined oversight, operational accountability, and long-range financial planning.
Assess and implement operational improvements that enhance efficiency while preserving the Club's high standards of service and member experience.
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement among department leaders and staff.
Cultivate a professional, team-oriented, and service-driven workplace that supports employee engagement and organizational success.
Champion talent acquisition, retention, training, and professional development initiatives to build a high-performing workforce.
Promote a culture of hospitality, operational excellence, and continuous learning throughout the organization.
Ensure all club facilities, amenities, and grounds are maintained to the highest standards of quality, presentation, and functionality.
Collaborate with Club leadership and the Board on long-range planning initiatives and future capital improvement projects.
Support the ongoing enhancement and strategic alignment of Club amenities to meet evolving member expectations and community growth.
Work collaboratively with the Board to evaluate opportunities associated with the "Rookery" and their potential impact on the Club's future.
Foster a strong partnership with the Board and Club President, promoting a culture of transparency, collaboration, and shared success throughout The Commons Club.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
Progressive senior leadership experience within a private club, lifestyle community, resort, or hospitality organization of comparable complexity and service expectations is preferred. The successful candidate will demonstrate proven success leading through department heads and building high-performing teams while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, service excellence, and continuous improvement. Rising stars and Assistant General Managers with experience in similar operations will be considered. Demonstrated strengths in operational leadership, financial management, team development, and member engagement are essential. Candidates should possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, strong financial acumen, sound business judgment, and the ability to build productive relationships with members, employees, community stakeholders, and the Board of Directors.
EDUCATIONAL AND CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATIONS
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is preferred; however, consideration will be given to candidates with exceptional leadership experience and a demonstrated record of success in comparable roles and environments.
Industry certifications such as CCM, CCE, and CAM are encouraged but not required.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary is open and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The club offers an excellent bonus and benefits package, including association membership.
