Job Description

Bright Bridge Ministries is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, faith-centered ministry dedicated to providing food, recovery services, housing and spiritual guidance to those in need. Since 2007, Bright Bridge has worked with Escambia County's most vulnerable and under-resourced residents: homeless individuals and families, children living in poverty, U.S. veterans, mentally ill, former inmates, substance abusers and others in need. Our ministries, including His Place Ministry and worship services at Richards Memorial UMC, focus on guiding individuals toward recovery, personal growth, and a deeper relationship with God.

Full-Time, Salaried Position Summary:
The Assistant Shelter Manager supports the daily operations and service delivery at the shelter, working under the supervision of the Shelter Manager/Case Manager. This role ensures a safe, clean, and supportive environment for residents, assists with case management functions, and helps oversee compliance with program policies and requirements. The Assistant Shelter Manager also supports administrative duties, staff supervision, and communication with internal and external partners. Salary Pay Range $30,000 - 38,000 Salaried, FTE Employee. Includes Private Room on Site + Board + Food. Responsibilities Pass security clearance, Level 2 Assist with submitting daily reports of program roster Assist with submitting daily shelter availability to county Assist with daily check of beds, rooms, general areas for cleanliness and maintenance needs of areas Administering drug tests, breathalyzer and property searchers Work with the Resident Assistants Ensure compliance for weekly meetings and submit weekly spreadsheets on resident classes Submit monthly sub-reports on shelter attendants, jobs gained, benefits gained etc. Communicate effectively with caseworkers and management on updates to the program, new residents, fees, maintenance, classes, etc. Communicate effectively with funders, referral sources, vendors and community-based organizations Research and submit data for possible grants, newsletters, and tours Transport residents as needed Ensure all program rules and requirements are always met Ensure property is maintained, landscaping, trash pickup etc. Provide onsite tours On Call Filing and maintaining case history reports through the Homeless Management Information System. Complete intakes and make assessments of client needs. Monitor compliance with goals through regular contact. Maintain a file and complete all paperwork in a timely manner. Provides relevant referrals to agencies and service providers based upon the goals and objectives mutually agreed upon with the client. Advocates for clients with agencies and service providers to minimize barriers to client's receiving needed services. Knowledge of all potential client resources, including attending meetings at relevant agencies and providers. Maintains a professional relationship with clients and conducts all business-related activity according to program policy and standards relevant to the Case Management field. Monitors client behavior regarding compliance issues and follow-up; provides consistent limits and expectations regarding program policies and goal achievement. Maintain confidential files for each client comprising all the details of the case management effort; communicate any relevant information to Shelter Manager, as appropriate. Demonstrated knowledge of Substance Use and Opioid Use Disorders (SUD/OUD), including withdrawal management, Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), and recovery support systems. Apply harm reduction and trauma-informed care principles while maintaining a client-centered, nonjudgmental approach. Provide individualized case management and recovery support for clients with SUD/OUD, collaborating with healthcare providers, treatment programs, and peer recovery networks. Conduct ongoing risk assessments and connect clients to appropriate treatment, crisis intervention, and relapse prevention resources. Aid in the application, as appropriate, for SSI, SSDI, GA, TANF, etc. benefits. Determine eligibility for VA benefits. Examine employment history and prospects. Participate in weekly meetings. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications College degree, preferably in social work, psychology, or sociology and/or experience working with the homeless population. Must pass a Level 2 background check. Must be Safe Sanctuaries trained. Must be First Aid/CPR certified. Must be HMIS Certified. Must attend opioid abatement training at beginning of 2026.
