June 1, 2026 To apply, visit: https://www.ugajobsearch.com/postings/476587 About the Role The Banquets and Catering Manager at the UGA Center for Continuing Education and Hotel leads all on-site banquet and off-site catering operations for one of Georgia's most active university conference and event facilities. This is a senior management position responsible for both the day-to-day success of banquet service and the long-term financial and operational health of the department. The Georgia Center hosts more than 1,700 events annually, serving approximately 95,000 participants each year. Our Food and Beverage team supports that mission across two full-service dining outlets and a full banquet and catering operation. Why Work at the Georgia Center Stable, mission-driven university environment backed by the University of Georgia Comprehensive benefits including health, dental, vision, and retirement through the University System of Georgia Retirement plan options through TRS or ORP Monday through Friday core schedule (40 hours/week) with evening and weekend flexibility as event operations require Access to a professional network through UGA's HFIM program and statewide hospitality community Paid state holidays and generous leave accrual Key Responsibilities Banquet and Catering Operations (30%) Provide direct oversight of all banquet and catering staff Plan and assign work schedules, manage personnel, and supervise daily performance Lead recruiting, hiring, and onboarding for the banquet team Daily Event Management (25%) Oversee execution of all banquet and catering events Manage assistant banquet and catering managers Build and sustain strong working relationships with staff, clients, and campus partners Establish and maintain sanitation standards across the banquet and catering operation Service Excellence and Team Development (25%) Develop and implement service training programs aligned with Food and Beverage Director standards Mentor and develop direct-report managers Partner with the culinary team to train banquet staff on current menu offerings Financial and Strategic Oversight (20%) Adhere to budgets and financial standards established by the Food and Beverage Director Manage all banquet inventory systems Enforce labor budgets and develop accountability systems to support budgetary goals Collaborate with the Food and Beverage Director to build internal systems that promote sound business practices across the management team Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience Eight (8) years of professional experience in food and beverage, including at least five (5) years in a high-volume management role At least three (3) years of direct experience in banquet and catering management Working knowledge of local and state health and safety regulations Demonstrated leadership, communication, and critical thinking skills Valid driver's license (driving is required in this position) Preferred Qualifications Experience managing within a university or institutional food service environment Familiarity with budget development, labor cost management, and cost of goods tracking Experience developing formal service training programs Physical Requirements Ability to lift or move up to 30 lbs as needed. Must be able to work extended standing hours. Travel to off-site catering events is required. Additional Information This position has financial oversight responsibilities. A credit background check will be required. A criminal background investigation is required as a condition of employment. This position has security access to financial and operational systems.
