Job Description

Working Kitchen Manager Overview Seeking a motivated, hands-on, and energetic Working Kitchen Manager to lead our kitchen team and daily culinary operations. This is a leadership position that requires both strong management skills and a willingness to work alongside the team during busy periods. The ideal candidate will be passionate about food quality, team development, guest satisfaction, and operational excellence. As a Working Kitchen Manager, you will oversee all aspects of kitchen operations while maintaining high standards for food quality, cleanliness, safety, and efficiency. You will be responsible for building effective schedules, maximizing team productivity, controlling costs, and ensuring a positive work environment that delivers exceptional dining experiences for our guests. Responsibilities Lead and supervise all daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, plating, and presentation. Serve as a hands-on leader by actively working kitchen stations, including the grill, line, prep, expo, or other areas as needed during peak business periods, staffing shortages, or special events. Create and manage employee schedules that effectively utilize all team members while maintaining proper staffing levels, controlling labor costs, and meeting operational demands. Monitor labor performance and make scheduling adjustments to ensure efficiency and productivity. Recruit, train, coach, and develop kitchen staff to maintain a high-performing and team-oriented culture. Conduct employee evaluations and provide ongoing feedback to improve performance and accountability. Manage inventory levels, ordering, receiving, stock rotation, and waste reduction efforts. Monitor food costs and implement strategies to improve profitability while maintaining quality standards. Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment at all times. Collaborate with management and front-of-house teams to ensure smooth operations and exceptional guest service. Assist with menu execution, recipe adherence, portion control, and quality assurance. Coordinate kitchen operations for catering events, banquets, and high-volume service periods. Requirements Previous experience as a Kitchen Manager, Assistant Kitchen Manager, Lead Cook, or similar leadership role in a full-service restaurant environment. Strong leadership and team-building skills with proven supervisory experience. Extensive knowledge of food safety, sanitation standards, inventory management, and kitchen operations. Demonstrated ability to create efficient employee schedules while managing labor costs and maximizing team utilization. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume restaurant environment. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills. Experience with food ordering, cost controls, and waste management. Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and flexible schedules as needed. Must be willing and able to actively work in the kitchen alongside staff and lead by example. ServSafe Manager Certification is required or must be renewed within a specified timeframe after hire. Thorough knowledge of all local, state, and federal health department regulations, food safety standards, sanitation procedures, and workplace safety requirements is required. Must demonstrate a strong understanding of foodborne illness prevention, proper food handling, temperature controls, cross-contamination prevention, employee health reporting requirements, and cleaning and sanitizing procedures. Ability to ensure continuous compliance with health inspections and maintain the highest standards of food safety and sanitation throughout the operation. Must lead by example and hold all kitchen staff accountable for following food safety and health department guidelines at all times.
