Job Description
Position Summary The Shift Manager is responsible for providing leadership to crew and other managers during a shift to ensure exceptional Quality, Service, Cleanliness (QSC) to our guests. Shift Managers plan for each shift, monitor performance during the shift, take action to ensure the team is meeting McDonald's standards, monitor safety, security and profitability, and communicate with the next Shift Manager to help prepare them to run a great shift, too. Shift Managers are also responsible for meeting targets during their shifts and for helping their assigned Departments meet their goals. What You'll Do Lead the Team Keep the team motivated and on track Make sure everyone's in uniform and ready to work Set the tone for great guest service Assign breaks and manage labor efficiently Help train new crew members and support ongoing development Run the Shift Keep things moving in the kitchen and front counter Meet or exceed all service goals (OEPE, KVS, VOICE, PACE, Labor, FoB, etc.) Complete DSPT's at least 24 hours in advance and utilize during peak periods to optimize performance Complete pre-shift checklists Identify danger zones and react appropriately Keep it Clean & Safe Conduct QSC travel path every 30 minutes, inspecting lobby, restrooms, parking lot, prioritizing and correcting issues immediately Complete and verify daily food safety checklist and monitor food safety procedures during shift Ensure guest and high-touch surfaces are clean, sanitary and stocked Verify completion/follow-up on all cleaning and PM maintenance tasks Report any crew or customer illness, injuries, or property damage immediately Communication & Issue Resolution Handle guest concerns promptly, professionally and appropriately Communicate shift goals vs. actual performance throughout the shift Communicate any new and upcoming changes regarding product, people, policy Pass on key information to incoming manager such as equipment or staffing issues Provide on the spot coaching for crew members when needed Inventory Management Maintain stock levels for upcoming peaks Cash Handling & Reporting Ensure cash controls are in place, including safe contents, skims, deposits, cash +/- Complete shift cash handling and end-of-day reporting accurately Other Assist with internal/external audits and vendor visits All other duties as assigned What You'll Need General Must be at least 18 years of age Bilingual (Spanish) highly desirable Education High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required College degree preferred, but not required Experience At least 1-year prior crew trainer or supervisory experience At least 1 year's work experience in fast food, hospitality or retail environment Familiar with managing KPIs such as labor management, food waste, guest satisfaction Certifications ServSafe certification required to be obtained and active throughout tenure Allergen certification required to be obtained and active throughout tenure Skills You Bring Leadership skills Motivate and guide the team to perform at their best Make confident decisions and own the outcomes Hold yourself and others accountable Lead by example and explain the "why" behind decisions Give and receive feedback in a constructive way Stay focused on goals and help others stay aligned Soft skills Positive attitude that lifts and motivates the team Clear communicator who acts with emotional intelligence Effective in conflict resolution and building team morale Navigate changes and help others adapt Effective time management and delegation skills Stay calm under pressure and act with urgency when needed Technical skills Understand and apply food safety and compliance standards Track and respond to operational KPIs (e.g., labor cost, food waste, guest satisfaction) Use POS systems and reporting tools confidently Analyze data and make smart, informed decisions Follow procedures for inventory, cash handling, and shift reporting Additional Information Work Environment & Schedule Requires 95% standing and walking in a restaurant; 5% administrative Requires lifting up to 30 pounds Night, weekend and holiday availability required Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment Reporting Structure Reports to the Restaurant General Manager Direct reports include all crew and managers working during the designated shift Compensation & Benefits Competitive hourly wage, pay for this position ranges from $15-$25/hour based on prior experience.
